A Journey on Ice: The Story of Itsuki Ito
On March 22, 2026, from 16:00 to 17:00, Kansai TV will air a documentary titled "The Document: Living on Ice - 11 Years to Milan," which chronicles the inspiring trail of Athletes employee Itsuki Ito, a star in the world of Paralympic ice hockey.
With a history that spans over a decade, this documentary serves as a compelling sequel to the previously aired program "The Dream Seen on Ice - A 7-Year Journey with a Mother and Son," which first aired on March 31, 2022. This earlier installment received several accolades, including the Galaxy Award Encouragement Prize and Silver and Gold Prizes at the New York Festivals TV and Film Awards and World Media Festival, respectively.
The narration for the upcoming documentary is performed by actor Tori Matsuzaka, who played the role of a wheelchair-bound youth named 'Itsuki' in the Kansai TV-produced drama "Perfect World." Matsuzaka’s voice adds an emotional layer to Ito's incredible story, capturing his struggles, triumphs, and the sheer willpower displayed throughout his career.
While fans of the program will certainly enjoy the documentary, they are also encouraged to keep an eye out for a special 30-second TV commercial featuring Ito for the streetwear brand XLARGE. Filming of this CM took place at the Yamabiko Forest Ice Arena in Okaya City, Nagano, a training base for the Japan Paralympic ice hockey team. The CM was specifically shot for the program and will air alongside the documentary, making it a segment not to be missed.
About Itsuki Ito: A Maven of Paralympic Ice Hockey
Itsuki Ito was born on September 29, 2005, in Osaka, Japan. He began his ice hockey journey at the tender age of six. However, fate struck when he faced a life-changing accident in third grade, resulting in spinal cord damage. Undeterred and displaying remarkable resilience, Ito transitioned to para ice hockey in fourth grade, where he showcased his outstanding talent. He currently competes for the Rosspada Kansai Para Ice Hockey Club and earned a place on the national team in 2018.
In October 2023, under his representation, Japan’s team clinched victory at the B-pool World Para Ice Hockey Championship with a fabulous performance, scoring six goals and providing three assists. As a result, Japan's team ascended to the A-pool category, and Ito made history by being named the MVP of the tournament—an achievement that marks him as the first Japanese player ever to achieve this honor. At the Yesheim 2025 World Para Ice Hockey Qualifiers, he was awarded the Best Forward accolade and secured his spot for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.
Ito plays as a forward and is known for his extraordinary speed and skills, earning him the title of the young ace leading Japan's team at just 20 years old. His accomplishments paint a picture of determination, talent, and the undying spirit of an athlete committed to making his dreams come true. He actively shares his journey on Instagram, connecting with fans and inspiring many along the way.
