November 2025,
Austin's Music Scene serves as the first comprehensive field guide to the contemporary music landscape of Austin, Texas. This
224-page richly illustrated volume encompasses artist profiles from a variety of musical genres, histories of notable venues, curated playlists, festival insights, and even features a unique hand-drawn gatefold map showcasing live music venues across different neighborhoods in the city.
Importantly,
50% of the net profits from the book are directed towards the
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), which provides essential healthcare access to working musicians within Central Texas. This commitment reflects the mission of Thunderhouse Media Group to not only celebrate the vibrant music scene of Austin but also support the artists behind it.
Feedback from notable voices within Austin's music community has been overwhelmingly positive.
KUTX 98.9 FM praised it as "as comprehensive as it is compelling — a true page-turner," while
The Austin Chronicle referred to the book as "an important almanac for those of us living in its pages." Media outlets like
CBS Austin have touted it as the perfect gift for any music aficionado.
In expressing his vision for the book, Mitch Baranowski, editor-in-chief and founder of Thunderhouse Media Group, remarked, "No single book can capture the full breadth of Austin's incredibly rich and diverse music scene, and we knew that going in. Our aim was to create a real love letter, a curated snapshot of the scene today, and let the artists speak for themselves."
Baranowski also expressed gratitude towards
HAAM for their collaboration and support, noting the initial help from community members that contributed significantly to the book's realization. He credited the creative team, especially
Chris Ritchie, whose cover design was nominated, and
David Brendan Hall, the photo editor, for their contributions to the book.
The winners of the Gold Awards will be unveiled at the
IBPA Publishing University awards ceremony scheduled for
May 15, 2026, in
Portland, Oregon. For those interested,
Austin's Music Scene is available for purchase online and at select independent bookstores throughout Texas. More information can be found on the official Thunderhouse website at

As a special note, the
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians has been a crucial part of the Austin music community since 2005, connecting musicians with affordable healthcare through a network of dedicated professionals offering their services at reduced rates. Providing vital support, HAAM enables musicians to focus on their craft while ensuring they have access to essential health services. Combining the celebration of music with a commitment to social good,
Austin's Music Scene stands as a testament to the spirit of Austin's vibrant cultural landscape.
