Nitradyn, LLC has reached a significant milestone in its journey toward strengthening U.S. defense capabilities by securing a $581 million contract from the Department of War. This contract is designated for the construction of a cutting-edge manufacturing facility focused on producing Insensitive Munition Explosive-104 (IMX-104) in Graham, Kentucky.

What is IMX-104?

IMX-104 is not just any explosive; it's a carefully formulated mixture that utilizes three primary explosive components: RDX, NTO, and DNAN. This formulation is pivotal for various defense applications, highlighting its importance in military operations. With the new facility, Nitradyn intends to extend its production capabilities, which will also include HMX, another critical explosive that enhances the U.S. Army's arsenal.

This ambitious new construction will occur on the same site where the U.S. Army is also erecting a facility for TNT production, ultimately resulting in a diverse explosives manufacturing campus. Since its establishment in 2025, Nitradyn has positioned itself as a producer and supplier of explosives, propellants, and energetic materials for both military and commercial markets. The company’s President, Braden Lusk, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "This contract is an essential investment in America’s ability to produce critical munitions. The incorporation of this project into the same site as the TNT project gives the Department of War a true advanced explosives manufacturing campus, with ability to produce a diverse range of formulations."
