A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation: Y. & SONS x THE INOUE BROTHERS Collaboration
In a remarkable collaboration,
Y. & SONS, a renowned kimono tailor based in Shibuya, Tokyo, joins forces with
THE INOUE BROTHERS, a creative design studio dedicated to addressing social issues. Together, they unveil a stunning collection of kimonos and haoris crafted from luxurious Royal Alpaca wool. This exciting partnership marks their fourth collaboration, and to celebrate, a special episode titled "EPISODE 425AW Royal Alpaca / DARK BROWN" will debut on the Y. & SONS special page on December 11, 2025.
Celebrating Craftsmanship and Culture
Customers are invited to meet Satoshi and Kiyoshi Inoue, the founding brothers of THE INOUE BROTHERS, at the Y. & SONS Kyoto store on December 13, 2025. This is a unique opportunity to hear firsthand about the passion and dedication behind their craftsmanship. The tagline "Style can't be mass-produced," perfectly encapsulates the ethos of THE INOUE BROTHERS, aligning seamlessly with Y. & SONS’ mission to bring traditional attire into everyday life.
Both brands share a deep commitment to craft, culture, and quality, having developed a strong relationship through previous collaborations, which have allowed them to explore the depth and breadth of creativity in the world of textiles.
A Thoughtful Choice of Location
The filming for the promotional video took place in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, known for its traditional dyeing workshops. While this area is celebrated for creating the most casual yukatas and tenuguis, it is also where dedicated artisans strive to maintain the integrity of their craft. The story behind Japanese traditional crafts often focuses on pricing and prestige. However, Y. & SONS emphasizes that the true value lies in the intentions and effort woven into each piece.
The Inoue brothers express their appreciation for the artisans' relentless pursuit of excellence, stating they were inspired to appreciate the authentic beauty of hand-crafted apparel that is deserving in its own right, independent of solely cultural or traditional markings.
Unmatched Quality of Materials
The Royal Alpaca fabric, exclusively made for Y. & SONS, is crafted from 100% Royal Alpaca fibers with no blends involved. This meticulous approach ensures each kimono exhibits beauty and elegance while maintaining superior softness and warmth. The final fabric is a result of fine-tuning conducted at a factory in Peru, balancing dimension and texture perfectly suited for kimono craftsmanship. Though the color palette is limited to a rich DARK BROWN, customers will benefit from sizing options tailored to their unique measurements.
Additionally, for the first time in this collaboration, customers can order traditional samue outfits.
Wearability Beyond Special Occasions
Y. & SONS envisions the alpaca kimono not just as attire for ceremonial days, but as garments that can be delightfully worn in any setting—be it a chilly day or a casual outing. The aim is to encourage freedom and creativity in styling traditional wear, making it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
Alongside the kimono and haori, Y. & SONS will also launch dyeing techniques hand-crafted in collaboration with THE INOUE BROTHERS, available starting December 13, 2025. Customers are excitedly encouraged to explore this offering, which combines artistry and tradition with a contemporary twist.
