Munters Expands Its Data Center Cooling Campus in Virginia to Meet Growing Demand
Munters Expands Its Data Center Cooling Campus in Virginia
In a significant development for the tech industry, Munters, a renowned leader in climate optimization technologies, has unveiled its newly expanded campus dedicated to data center cooling solutions in Daleville, Virginia. This expansion marks a crucial step forward in meeting the escalating demand for efficient cooling systems due to the rapid growth in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
The inauguration of this new facility, which encompasses additional manufacturing and training spaces, represents a strategic investment by Munters aimed at enhancing its capacity to deliver customized cooling solutions at scale. This allows the company to contribute to the resource-efficient development of digital infrastructure, a highly sought-after asset in today’s technology-driven environment.
Currently employing around 600 professionals, the Daleville campus spans an impressive 565,000 square feet, making it the largest of Munters' five global manufacturing facilities within the Data Center Technologies segment. Here, they produce an extensive portfolio of products designed for efficient cooling, including air side economizers, the innovative SyCool Split, CRAHs, fan coil arrays, CDUs, and for the first time, chillers.
One of the highlights of the expanded facility is the establishment of the Munters Service Academy and the addition of sophisticated testing and laboratory spaces, including an advanced environmental chamber specifically for chillers. This move significantly boosts Munters' capabilities to provide robust service and support to customers.
Stefan Aspman, the President of Munters Data Center Technologies, commented on the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and its implications for the necessary digital and physical infrastructure, stating, "With these new capabilities we are well-positioned to deliver on our ambitious growth agenda while meeting the needs of customers and communities."
Meanwhile, Frank Pellegrino, SVP of Sales Strategy for Data Center Technologies, emphasized the importance of having not just the right manufacturing setup, but also a skilled workforce and technical expertise to effectively meet customer needs. “Having the right setup is only part of the equation. We need technical knowledge and service capabilities to support solutions that operate efficiently and minimize resource waste throughout their lifecycle,” he asserted.
With the new facility, Munters has also initiated local manufacturing for its chillers, a shift from previously being produced in Italy. This includes the introduction of the Circlemiser chiller, which is designed with cylindrical condensing coils that promise to significantly reduce energy consumption compared to standard air-cooled chillers.
This expansion solidifies Munters' commitment to leading the charge in sustainable and resource-efficient cooling solutions that are critical as the demands of modern technology continue to evolve. As the digital landscape becomes increasingly reliant on efficient infrastructure, Munters is strategically positioning itself to meet these challenges head-on, ultimately aiming to support the growing tech ecosystem with solutions that are both effective and environmentally sustainable.
