Sungrow Launches Innovative PowerTitan 2.0 Energy Storage System in Finland
First Deployment of Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 in Finland
Sungrow, a leader in photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems (ESS), has recently marked a significant milestone by partnering with Renewable Power Capital (RPC) to deploy its innovative PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system in the Kalanti project located in Uusikaupunki, Finland. This advanced system, which is liquid-cooled, is designed to enhance the efficiency and longevity of battery storage and will help stabilize the power grid while integrating renewable energy sources more effectively.
The project, which is the first of its kind in Finland to utilize the PowerTitan 2.0 technology, is set to commence development in March 2025. This initiative will play a crucial role in enhancing the energy storage capabilities in the region, bolstering grid stability, and facilitating improved integration of renewable energy.
The signing ceremony for this partnership took place during the recent Energy Storage Summit 2025 held in London. The PowerTitan 2.0 offers precise temperature management across all battery cells, thereby extending battery life and optimizing operational performance. It features advanced liquid cooling technology that significantly enhances thermal management, reduces operational risks, and maximizes performance, achieving a round-trip efficiency (RTE) of 90% while improving charging and discharging efficiency.
Sungrow plans to deliver 20 units of its 5 MWh energy storage system, meticulously housed in compact 20-foot containers that seamlessly integrate battery cells and power conversion systems (PCS). Furthermore, Sungrow will provide full operation and maintenance services under a 15-year contract with RPC, ensuring long-term reliability and operational efficiency for the project.
Iker Labiano, Head of ESS at Sungrow Ibérica, remarked, “This project signifies an important breakthrough for energy storage in Finland. Collaborating with RPC to bring our latest liquid-cooled BESS technology to market is an honor. We are not only providing a highly efficient and reliable storage solution but also reaffirming our commitment to supporting the energy transition with safe, scalable, and intelligent BESS technology.”
Sarwjit Sambhi, CEO of Renewable Power Capital, added, “Finland is a significant market for us. The energy system really needs efficient and well-managed storage to maximize its abundant wind resources. Therefore, we are delighted to partner with companies we truly trust and maintain fantastic relationships with. We look forward to working with Sungrow to deliver this vital infrastructure to the Finnish energy system.”
The Kalanti BESS will provide two hours of storage capacity, enabling it to deliver essential grid services, such as frequency response, and actively participate in large-scale energy markets. Sungrow's cutting-edge technology will play a pivotal role in optimizing system efficiency, lowering maintenance costs, and ensuring seamless integration with Finland's renewable energy infrastructure.
Due to its C5 corrosion grade, the PowerTitan 2.0 can be deployed in diverse and demanding environments. Iñigo Cayetano, Senior ESS Product Manager at Sungrow Ibérica, emphasized, “The PowerTitan 2.0 has already been successfully deployed in projects worldwide, including Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom. Efficient, robust, and safe, the PowerTitan 2.0 represents a reliable and high-performance solution.”
With over 19 years of expertise in energy storage systems, Sungrow demonstrates through the PowerTitan 2.0 a commitment to advancing technological innovation in BESS, supporting the rapid development of energy storage projects across Europe. SP Global Commodity Insights predicts that more than 140 GW of energy storage will be installed between 2024 and 2030.
