Unveiling the Winners of RecoChoku's 2nd Art Contest

The much-anticipated results of RecoChoku's 2nd art contest titled "Soundscapes" have been officially announced. Held from December 22, 2025, to February 8, 2026, this event invited elementary and middle school students residing and studying in Shibuya to express their creative interpretations of the theme. The contest received numerous entries, which underwent a careful evaluation by a panel led by CEO Tohru Itabashi.

Celebrating Creativity

Since its founding in 2001, RecoChoku has endeavored to enhance experiences centered around music. The "Soundscapes" contest aims to inspire children in the vibrant district of Shibuya to translate their thoughts and emotions related to sound into visual art. Participants were encouraged to explore their artistic instincts freely, resulting in an impressive showcase of talent.

The winning pieces were selected based on their ability to evoke the essence of sound through imagery, with a focus on capturing the sounds that shape our lives. The prestigious awards included the Grand Prize, Runner-Up Awards, and Excellence Awards, with six outstanding entries being recognized.

The Award-Winning Pieces

1. Grand Prize: "Sound Memory" by Yuuhi Nakata, 5th grader at Hatachi Elementary School.
- Description: Yuuhi conceptualized the idea that sounds could harbor memories, depicting a wind chime jingling in the breeze alongside a spirit reminiscent of past residents in a traditional Japanese home.

2. Runner-Up: "Shibuya is Full of People" by Shion Ohtaki, 2nd grader at Sarugaku Elementary School.
- Description: Shion captured the bustling essence of Shibuya's scramble crossing, illustrating the symphony of voices, footsteps, train sounds, and commercial jingles that fill the air.

3. Runner-Up: "Let's Have a Barbecue!" by Riho, 3rd grader at Sarugaku Elementary School.
- Description: Riho depicted a joyous day camping with friends, illustrating the sounds of sizzling barbecues that almost seem to leap off the canvas.

The submission period for this contest was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, and participants created remarkable works that enriched the theme of sound through art. While not every entry received an award, the level of creativity displayed by all participants was commendable.

Judging Process & Future Aspirations

The judging panel consisted of RecoChoku staff, who carefully reviewed and enjoyed each submission, lending insights into the creativity and talent of Shibuya's youth. CEO Tohru Itabashi praised the winners for their ability to vividly convey auditory experiences through their artwork. He expressed hope that all participants would continue to relish the joys of artistic expression while fostering a connection with sound.

The award-winning artworks will be featured on RecoChoku's official contest website, providing visibility to these remarkable young artists. Furthermore, they will be showcased in digital signage at RecoChoku’s office entrance, ensuring that their creativity reaches a broader audience.
