Discover the Enchantment of Matsumoto Castle Projection Mapping 2025-2026
The Matsumoto Castle, a designated national treasure in Japan, will once again be transformed into a spectacular visual canvas during the 2025-2026 winter season. From December 13, 2025, to February 15, 2026, visitors will be treated to the breathtaking
Matsumoto Castle Projection Mapping, an event co-produced by Hitohata, Epson, and Seiko Epson. Following a successful previous year that saw over 170,000 attendees, this event aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Matsumoto region through vivid projection displays.
A Historical Gem with a Modern Twist
Matsumoto Castle, boasting a stunning five-story six-level structure, is one of the oldest surviving castles categorized as a national treasure. The projection mapping will feature a mix of local artistry, including Nishiki-e woodblock prints from the Matsumoto City Museum, vibrant folding screen images, and traditional crafts such as Matsumoto Temari and lanterns. The visuals will beautifully interweave with seasonal blooms like cherry blossoms and alpine flowers, creating a vivid backdrop that celebrates both nature and craftsmanship.
Immersive Experiences Await
The event goes beyond mere projections. Beyond the grand displays projected onto the castle and its stone walls, attendees can explore a variety of
interactive content throughout the castle grounds. There will be special projection features on the castle gates and an intricate lighting display across Matsumoto Castle Park, offering visitors a truly immersive experience. With free admission and no prior registration necessary, the event is accessible to anyone looking to enjoy this dazzling celebration of light and culture.
