Engage in the Cap Action Campaign for a Good Cause
Every June, coinciding with the Ministry of Environment's designated "Environment Month," the Japan Committee for Vaccine for Children (JCV) hosts the "#CapAction" campaign. This initiative encourages individuals to post images or videos of bottle caps on social media to promote environmental conservation while supporting vaccinations for children in developing countries.
What is Cap Action?
Launching in 2023, the Cap Action Campaign aims to make contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) accessible to everyone. By using the hashtag "#CapAction" when posting pictures of bottle caps, a donation for one vaccination will be made for children in countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Bhutan, and Vanuatu for each post. With the addition of Threads this year, the campaign has expanded from last year’s impressive total of 11,266 posts across Instagram and X.
How to Participate
- - Campaign Duration: June 1 to June 30, 2025.
- - Participation Method: Simply share a photo or video containing a bottle cap on Instagram, X, or Threads with the hashtag "#CapAction". Eligible images can feature anything from bottle cap art to the act of collecting caps.
- - Exclusions: Posts from private accounts, stories, or those with limited visibility will not qualify.
Support Opportunities for Companies
We invite companies and organizations to sponsor this impactful campaign starting from a minimum of 10,000 yen. Sponsorship funds will be specifically used for providing vaccinations through this campaign. Sponsors will have their logos displayed on a special webpage and will receive photos of children taken during scheduled visits to supported countries.
Benefits for Sponsors
1. Companies will be featured on a banner that can be used in digital promotions.
2. Additional visibility through logo placements in press releases and social media promotions.
3. Contributions will help promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives through special shout-outs on our website and social media channels.
Recycling Bottle Caps for a Better Future
Bottle caps, when properly collected and recycled, can become high-quality recyclable materials like polypropylene and polyethylene. The recycling potential of caps is remarkable, as they are transformed into various everyday products, from shopping carts to car components.
As the demand for recycled materials rises, more businesses are joining the JCV initiative, with over 80 companies participating nationwide. Collectively, these efforts yield approximately 1.3 billion bottle caps each year, translating to enough funds for over 1.3 million vaccinations against preventable diseases.
The Stark Reality of Preventable Diseases
Currently, 4,000 children die every day in developing countries due to preventable diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, and whooping cough. Each death represents a child who could have been saved through vaccination. The Japan Committee for Vaccine for Children (JCV) works diligently to provide vaccines to vulnerable children, ensuring a brighter future for them.
With vaccines costing as little as 20 yen per child, the organization has successfully delivered vaccinations to over 133 million children since its establishment in 1994. The ongoing support of organizers and sponsors alike will help extend these vital services to more children in need.
