Meet the Scholarship Recipients
K'Juanji A. Hamilton
K'Juanji A. Hamilton is an Occupational Nurse Consultant affiliated with the Department of Defense, currently working towards her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at Aspen University. K'Juanji expressed her gratitude, stating, "This scholarship will provide vital financial support, helping me cover tuition while enabling me to concentrate on my coursework, gain practical experience, and engage in research addressing public health issues." Her career goal includes obtaining a certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, post completion of her MSN, to further address mental health needs in communities.
Catalina Khalaj
Catalina Khalaj, serving as a Case Manager Liaison with Kaiser Permanente Health Plan of Washington, is pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Johns Hopkins University. She believes that the scholarship will enhance her skills in evidence-based practices and promote interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare. Khalaj stated, "This financial assistance will enable me to deepen my expertise in evidence-based practices, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and develop equitable health care systems, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing nursing leadership." After completing her DNP in 2027, she aspires to transition into a nurse executive role while also pursuing an MBA to strengthen her understanding of healthcare administration.
Felicia Mackey
Felicia Mackey is the Director of Outpatient Advanced Practice Providers for a private pulmonary practice in Sacramento, California. She is currently enrolled in a DNP program at Indiana University. Felicia highlighted the importance of the scholarship, remarking, "This degree is a big commitment, and I am honored to be chosen because it will help me financially, and in turn, allow me to focus on my studies rather than the cost of tuition." Her ambitions post-DNP include taking on a leadership role in hospital administration, where she intends to lead quality-improvement initiatives and advocate for policy changes that enhance patient care.
