Terrasmart's Groundbreaking Canopy Solar Project for AdventHealth in Florida
Terrasmart Completes Major Solar Project for AdventHealth
Terrasmart, a recognized leader in solar technology, has successfully concluded a significant canopy solar installation at the AdventHealth campus situated in Altamonte Springs, Florida. This ambitious project, carried out in partnership with ESA (a prominent developer specializing in solar and storage solutions), marks a notable achievement in the pursuit of renewable energy sources for healthcare facilities.
Project Overview
The newly completed installation is characterized by its 3 MW photovoltaic system, which stands among the largest privately-owned solar arrays in the state of Florida. This innovative system now supplies approximately one-third of the campus's total electricity needs through solar energy. With the completion of this project, AdventHealth is set to enjoy estimated savings of over $4.6 million in energy expenses throughout the system’s operational lifespan.
A remarkable aspect of this initiative is its environmental impact. The installation is projected to offset around 2,900 tons of CO2 emissions annually, propelling AdventHealth toward its objective of halving carbon emissions by the year 2030, with an ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In total, the photovoltaic system is expected to yield approximately 42,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy yearly—enough to power about 550 homes.
Collaborative Efforts
The successful execution of this project came from rigorous collaboration among various stakeholders. Besides the partnership with ESA, the project also involved seamless coordination with Duke Energy and the city of Altamonte Springs. The importance of teamwork was emphasized by Yury Reznikov, Chief Sales Officer at Terrasmart, stating, "Partnering with ESA on behalf of AdventHealth demonstrates the strength of collaboration and innovative design in solar energy projects."
The intricate nature of this installation was magnified by the campus's urban setting, which posed several logistical challenges such as limited access points and narrow roads, along with a laydown yard situated three-quarters of a mile from the main work site. Weather events like Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene further complicated the construction schedule, causing flooding in the laydown area. Nevertheless, the project was ultimately brought to completion on a revised timeline that was markedly favorable.
Unique Features
As one of Florida's major solar facilities, this installation comprises a total of 7,500 solar panels, strategically placed across the rooftops of four buildings, two multistory garages, covered walkways, and parking canopies. The project also introduced 62 electric vehicle charging ports and designed shaded parking for hundreds of spaces, catering to both staff and visitors.
Christine Stewart, Vice President of organizational integration and campus administration for AdventHealth, underscored the significance of this effort, noting, "The Altamonte Springs solar installation highlights our ongoing commitment to sustainability, comfort, care, and the betterment of the community."
