Huawei Showcases Six Global Demonstration Projects Transforming Power with AI Innovations

Huawei Unveils Six Global Reference Projects in Energy

During the recent Huawei Connect 2026, the company hosted the 2026 Global Electric Power Summit under the theme "AI × Energy Unlocking a New Power System." This compelling event showcased the growing synergy between digital technologies and the energy sector, attracting over 600 representatives from energy firms, industry organizations, and media across the globe.

The Shifting Landscape of Global Energy

The energy sector is currently experiencing profound transformations as it shifts towards incorporating renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on external energy supplies. This movement also aims to enhance grid resilience and improve electricity accessibility worldwide. Philippe Adam, the General Secretary of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), emphasized the importance of this transition. He noted that, by leveraging AI and digitalization, the power sector could proactively address the nearly 700 million people who lack access to electricity.

Integrating AI into the Energy Sector

Huawei highlighted that as energy systems evolve, the focus should shift towards modernizing low-voltage networks, which currently pose significant challenges across power systems. They outlined six critical capabilities essential for effective energy management:
1. Monitoring
2. Measurement
3. Control
4. Regulation
5. Transaction Management
6. Full Traceability
According to David Sun, CEO of Huawei's Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, achieving transparency within these networks hinges on three core factors: quicker data access, improved data quality, and enhanced cost efficiency.

Six Global Projects Showcased

The summit featured six transformative projects, illustrating the practical applications of digital and AI-powered solutions across the energy value chain, from production to consumption across various markets. Highlights from these projects include:
  • - The CEMIG digital smart grid in Brazil, showcasing advanced energy management techniques.
  • - A demonstration zone in Guangzhou, integrating distribution networks with microgrids under the China Southern Power Grid.
  • - An intelligent diagnostic and management system in Shaoshan, Hunan, enhancing the management of new distribution networks.
  • - Innovative supply and consumption solutions being implemented in Jiangxi province.
  • - A UHV ±800 kV digital converter station in Shaoxing, designed for higher voltage efficiency.
  • - A dedicated energy communications network in Liaoning province.

These initiatives depict the concrete impacts digital technologies and AI can have within the energy sector. Huawei aims to continue developing its expertise in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and will actively collaborate with energy companies, standardization organizations, and industry partners to propel further advancements in electricity solutions.

Future Focus: Building Smart Energy Solutions

As the energy sector grapples with modernization challenges, Huawei's commitment to innovation will be crucial in responding to the evolving demands of the industry. By enhancing the digital infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that govern electric power systems, Huawei is positioning itself as a leader in driving the transition towards sustainable energy solutions. The success of these reference projects may serve as a crucial blueprint for future advancements in energy management worldwide.
