Oxford Capital Group Offloads Seven Senior Housing Properties in Ontario

Oxford Capital Group's Exit from Ontario Senior Housing Market

In a significant move in the senior housing sector, Oxford Capital Group, LLC has announced the sale of seven senior housing properties located in various regions throughout Ontario, Canada. This sale represents a pivotal moment for the firm as it continues to evolve its senior housing platform. The total sale price for these properties amounted to $70,750,000 CAD, with the buyers being two separate entities.

Oxford's foray into the Ontario market began with the acquisition of a substantial portfolio consisting of 15 senior housing properties, which was assembled in two phases during 2018 and 2019. The overall portfolio, now totaling around 1,100 units, was managed by Oxford Living, LLC, the firm's fully owned subsidiary dedicated to senior housing management. Oxford Living operates in conjunction with its Canadian partners, maintaining a dual headquarters in both Chicago and Toronto.

John W. Rutledge, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Oxford Capital Group, expressed pride in the accomplishment. He stated, "This transaction represents another successful investment outcome for Oxford and its investment partners and another important milestone in the evolution of our senior housing platform." Rutledge emphasized the strong operational foundation Oxford Living has established in Ontario and the United States.

On the management front, Lawrence B. Cummings, President of Oxford Living, reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering reliable, comfortable, and affordable senior housing options in desirable markets across Ontario and the United States. He remarked, "We look forward to continuing to manage the remaining properties and to supporting residents, families, and team members across the platform."

The origins of the 15-property portfolio can be traced back to two landmark acquisitions. In 2018, Oxford, alongside its partners, acquired nine retirement communities in Ontario, comprising 648 suites. This was followed by the addition of six more communities in 2019, which brought the total to 15.

Oxford Capital Group, widely recognized for its strategic real estate investments, focuses on significant developments within the hospitality and senior living sectors. With notable achievements amounting to over $4 billion in real estate and private equity investments, its portfolio includes approximately 18,000 hotel rooms and 4,500 senior housing units.

As the company prepares for future projects, the remaining seven properties from the original Ontario portfolio will continue to benefit from the management expertise of Oxford Living.
