American Liver Foundation's Annual Walk for Liver Disease Awareness and Fundraising Event

Supporting Liver Health: The Liver Life Walk 2025

On February 24, 2025, the American Liver Foundation (ALF) will kick off its much-anticipated annual event—the Liver Life Walk. This year, the foundation will host the walk across 17 in-person locations nationwide, aiming to raise crucial funds and awareness for liver disease, which affects nearly 100 million Americans. This initiative not only seeks to fund critical research but also aims to foster community support among patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

A Legacy of Support

Since its inception in 1999, the Liver Life Walk has evolved into a cornerstone of the American Liver Foundation’s mission. According to Lorraine Stiehl, CEO of ALF, these events empower the foundation to continue providing vital resources and educational outreach, ultimately improving patient care and treatment options.

Through the funds raised during the walk, ALF supports various initiatives including funding liver disease research, enhancing public health education, and improving patient support systems. It’s an opportunity for people affected by liver disease to come together, share their stories, and connect with others facing similar challenges.

Championing Change: Meet the 2025 National Champions

This year’s National LIVEr Champion is Domenic Frappolli from Dallas, Texas, who has lived with biliary atresia (BA), a rare liver condition from birth. Domenic reflects on his journey: “My family and I faced numerous obstacles due to my liver disease. However, I had the privilege of experiencing moments that many children could only dream of, thanks to the unwavering support from my family and medical team.” Domenic recently underwent a life-changing live-donor liver transplant, which has revitalized his energy and passion for life.

On the pediatric side, Isabella Arlt, a high school junior from Houston, Texas, serves as this year’s Pediatric LIVEr National Champion. Diagnosed with acute liver failure at age 15, Isabella received a liver transplant just three weeks post-diagnosis. She shares, “I owe my life to an organ donor. Their generosity was a profound act of love. I am dedicated to raising awareness about organ donation to honor their legacy.”

Upcoming Events and Virtual Participation

The Liver Life Walk will take place at various locations throughout the year, from Boston, Massachusetts on June 8 to South Bay in San Francisco on October 18. Additionally, for those who cannot attend in person, ALF offers a Virtual Walk option, ensuring everyone can participate in the cause.

People interested in joining the movement can find more information and sign up on the official website at liverlifewalk.org. Educational packages and public service announcements will also be shared, available in different formats to spread the word about liver health and the importance of this initiative.
