On December 13, 2024, the ninth edition of the Imperial Springs International Forum took place in Madrid, marking a significant departure from its traditional setting in China. In a message conveyed by Hu Chunhua, the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President Xi Jinping reiterated the forum’s commitment to multilateral dialogue and global governance. Meanwhile, Spain's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío, highlighted Spain's dedication to fostering inclusive economic growth and collaboration with China.

Conversations at the forum zeroed in on global challenges such as inflation, rising protectionism, and vulnerable supply chains. A significant focus was placed on reforming the World Trade Organization (WTO) to stabilize international trade, as well as strengthening multilateral financial institutions like the G20 and various development banks to promote financial stability and alleviate debt pressures in low- and middle-income countries.

Furthermore, there was a consensus on the necessity of equitable international tax systems, debt restructuring for vulnerable nations, and the establishment of inclusive financial frameworks. The forum also called for the implementation of global governance structures for artificial intelligence (AI) and green technologies, ensuring fair access while preventing monopolistic practices.

One of the key takeaways was the prioritization of the Pact for the Future, adopted during the United Nations Future Summit in 2024. This pact addresses sustainable development, security, climate action, and digital cooperation, with a strong emphasis on accountability and resource mobilization.

Danilo Türk, President of the Club de Madrid, closed the forum with a powerful message. He affirmed that even amidst a fragmented world, dialogue and cooperation remain essential tools for confronting our shared challenges. He stated, "The collective action we take today will shape the global governance of tomorrow."
