APK PUBLIC Vol.2: Unfolding a New Artistic Chapter at TODA BUILDING
TODA Construction Co., led by President Kiyosuke Otani, has revealed exciting details about the second installment of its public art program, APK PUBLIC Vol.2. Scheduled to commence in June 2026 at the newly established TODA BUILDING located in Tokyo's Kyobashi district, this program promises to be a culturally enriching experience for the community and visitors alike.
Curatorial Vision and Concept
The program is curated by Tomoko Yabumae, a curator from the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art. The theme, "The Becoming City," invites viewers to critically explore the essence of urban environments through the lens of three distinguished artists: Aiko Tezuka, Asako Fujikura, and Shiori Watanabe. Their unique artworks will be showcased in various communal spaces within the TODA BUILDING, including the plaza, first-floor entrance lobby, and second-floor corridor.
This exhibition aims to provoke thoughtful discussions about the factors that shape urban spaces, exploring the complex interplay of political, economic, and social elements. As stated by Yabumae, the project seeks to visualize the intricate forces that contribute to the creation of cities, emphasizing that urban landscapes are constantly evolving, marked by cycles of creation and decay.
The artists’ works will challenge conventional notions of urbanity by highlighting suppressed voices and unseen narratives within the space, encouraging the audience to emerge from standardized perspectives of efficiency and uniformity.
