Skanska Launches Major Bypass Project I/12 Near Prague for CZK 3.8 Billion

Skanska Takes on Ambitious Transport Project near Prague

Skanska, the prominent construction company, has recently secured a contract with the National Highway Authority of the Czech Republic for the ambitious bypass I/12 project situated near Prague. This undertaking is valued at CZK 3.8 billion, which equates to around SEK 1.7 billion. The project, known as "I/12 Běchovice-Úvaly", aims to develop a crucial transportation route that will greatly improve safety and efficiency in the region.

The bypass will span approximately 12.6 kilometers and consist of four lanes, which will include 23 bridges and six multi-level crossings. This infrastructure upgrade is designed not only to enhance traffic flow but also to significantly reduce transit congestion in populated areas, thereby positively impacting the environment and local residents. The diversion of heavy traffic from residential zones will aid in minimizing noise and air pollution, contributing to a healthier community.

Construction is set to commence in July 2025, with an estimated completion date targeted for the end of 2027. Throughout this period, Skanska is committed to maintaining high standards of environmental protection and community engagement, ensuring that the project benefits the local population while fulfilling its objectives of improving transportation infrastructure.

The upgraded bypass will serve as a vital transport artery, facilitating smoother logistics and connecting key regions around Prague. It will not only support local commuter traffic but will also bolster economic activity by improving access for freight and transit through central Europe.

In light of recent developments, government officials and regional planners have expressed considerable enthusiasm for the I/12 project. As it embarks on this transformative journey, Skanska’s leadership in civil engineering is expected to set a benchmark for future infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic.

This investment is a part of Skanska's broader strategy to engage in significant market opportunities across Europe and reflects their dedication to building sustainable and efficient infrastructure. As we look forward to the beginning of the work in July, this project marks a pivotal moment for not only Skanska but for the Czech transportation landscape as a whole.

For any media inquiries or further updates on the project, Skanska encourages interested parties to reach out to their press contacts. Ondřej Šuch, Head of External Affairs for Skanska Central Europe, can be contacted at +420 725 628 760, while Andreas Joons, Press Officer for Skanska Group, is available at +46 (0)10 449 04 94.

In conclusion, the bypass I/12 project is set to redefine the travel experience around Prague, matching modern transportation needs with sustainable construction practices that respect the local environment and community interests.
