About 4v4
The 4v4 format of soccer is an innovative initiative conceived by Keisuke Honda to invigorate the youth soccer landscape in Japan. This tournament aims to provide elementary school students (U10 and U12) with the opportunity to showcase their skills. The tournament, developed in 2023, is aligned with the purpose of enhancing youth participation and will include a debut ASIAN CUP event in summer 2025.
The matches consist of 10-minute halves with an allowance for free substitutions. Moreover, the shot clock is set at 20 seconds. Unlike traditional formats, there will not be coaches or managers overseeing teams, fostering a sense of autonomy among the players. This structure allows for continuous engagement, whereby teams can compete multiple times throughout the season to accumulate points and vie for entry into the JAPAN CUP, ultimately aiming for national supremacy.
The mission is to cultivate essential life skills in children, preparing them for their future endeavors while grooming potential soccer stars, thus contributing positively to Japan's broader soccer community.
