Maritime Tactical Systems Chosen for U.S. Warfighting Lab Funding in FY26

MARTAC Selected for U.S. Warfighting Lab Incentive Fund

On July 16, 2025, Maritime Tactical Systems, Inc. (MARTAC) announced its selection as one of the winners of the U.S. Joint Staff J7 Warfighting Lab Incentive Fund (WLIF) for Fiscal Year 2026. Out of over 150 competitive entries, MARTAC stood out for its forward-thinking capabilities and contributions to the modernization of warfighting concepts. This selection marks a pivotal achievement as MARTAC continues to redefine capabilities within the maritime battlespace using its advanced unmanned surface vehicle (USV) technology.

The WLIF project for FY26 will put particular focus on MARTAC’s newest innovation—a next-generation USV platform measuring 82 feet. This advanced vessel is designed for both kinetic operations and tactical resupply missions, demonstrating its versatility in high-impact operational scenarios and multi-domain integration. Bruce Hanson, CEO of MARTAC, shared his excitement, stating, “The selection validates MARTAC’s commitment to delivering disruptive and scalable maritime solutions tailored to the evolving demands of the joint force.”

The WLIF initiative is spearheaded by the Joint Staff J7 and aims to accelerate the identification and integration of emerging technologies into joint military experimentation and strategic planning. MARTAC’s role in this initiative will involve participating in coordinated lab exercises, conducting live demonstrations, and performing data-driven analysis to contribute to future investment strategies.

MARTAC, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, has become a leading manufacturer of fully autonomous unmanned surface vessels (USVs) actively deployed for a wide range of missions. The company prides itself on providing fielded, scalable, and interoperable AI-driven autonomous maritime platforms for defense and security operations globally.

The ongoing advancements in maritime innovation are crucial as defense strategies evolve, and MARTAC is at the forefront, demonstrating leadership in operational experimentation and fostering cross-service collaboration. With this opportunity, MARTAC aims to showcase how its cutting-edge USV technology can enhance mission success and transform existing military capabilities.

As the landscape of defense technology continues to change, the contributions of innovative companies like MARTAC will be instrumental in shaping the future of military strategy. The FY26 WLIF project is just one of many steps toward utilizing unmanned systems in new and effective ways. Through continued research and development, MARTAC not only enhances its own technological offerings but also supports the broader goals of national security and military readiness.
