2025 Food Coordinator Level 3 Certification Exam: Twice a Year!

2025 Food Coordinator Level 3 Certification Exam

The Japan Food Coordinator Association (FCAJ) is thrilled to announce that starting in 2025, the Level 3 Food Coordinator certification exam will be held twice a year. This initiative has been motivated by the feedback from many aspiring food coordinators who are looking for more frequent opportunities to take the exam.

The second round of the Level 3 exam will open for registration at noon on December 1, 2025, running until January 19, 2026. It's essential to note that applicants interested in taking the examination along with the preparatory course must register by December 22, 2025. For complete details, please refer to the application page on the FCAJ website.

This exam utilizes the Computer Based Testing (CBT) format, allowing candidates to select from over 300 locations throughout Japan. This maximum capacity means you can find a suitable exam site, although it is important to register early as some locations may reach full capacity. The first round of testing took place from July 18 to July 31, 2025, while the upcoming second round is scheduled for January 27 to February 9, 2026.

Implementing multiple testing opportunities is part of FCAJ's effort to make the Level 3 certification more accessible. The Level 3 exam serves as the entry point for those looking to advance to Level 2 and Level 1 certifications, establishing a foundation in food coordination. The exam covers four key subjects: Culture, Science, Design & Art, and Economics & Management, providing a comprehensive understanding of food-related knowledge.

Candidates pursuing this certification will find themselves better equipped in areas such as food development, presentation, and management. Not only does this expertise have its place in business, but the knowledge acquired will enhance everyday dining experiences and personal cooking skills.

In addition to the exam, FCAJ offers a “Level 3 Exam Preparation Course.” This course is available on-demand, allowing participants to learn at their convenience between January 9 and January 22, 2026. Joining the exam and the preparatory course together can lead to a significant discount, with the total cost being 29,000 yen for general applicants.

The examination system for food coordinators was established by FCAJ in 1994, marking the only official certification for food coordinators in Japan. This system grades candidates from Level 1 to Level 3, with the Level 3 exam being held twice a year and the higher levels just once annually. Those who successfully pass Level 3 can then work towards Level 2 and Level 1 certifications, gaining valuable qualifications in the process.

As of now, a total of 83,500 people have successfully passed the Level 3 examination, while approximately 2,400 have obtained the Level 2 certification, and 180 have achieved Level 1 status. Many certified food coordinators are making significant contributions within the culinary field, helping to shape food trends and enhance culinary experiences.

The Japan Food Coordinator Association remains dedicated to cultivating professionals who can contribute to healthier, more enjoyable eating experiences while promoting the importance of food culture. If you're interested in pursuing this vibrant career path, mark your calendar and register for the Level 3 exam this December!
