Academy Software Foundation Expands Membership to Foster Open Source Collaboration
Academy Software Foundation Welcomes New Members
The Academy Software Foundation (ASWF), a leading organization in the realm of open source software for motion pictures and media, has recently expanded its membership by adding three significant contributors: CIQ, Evercast, and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). This addition comes right before the highly anticipated Open Source Days event, scheduled for July 19-20, 2026, in Los Angeles, which aims to enhance collaboration and advance open source technologies in the film and media industries.
CIQ joins as a Premier Member, while Evercast takes its place as a General Member, and RIT enters as an Associate Member. According to David Morin, the executive director of ASWF, each of these organizations brings substantial expertise that will elevate the foundation's efforts. CIQ provides scalable infrastructure for rendering farms, Evercast offers real-time review tools that facilitate collaboration among creatives, and RIT contributes through its educational initiatives, emphasizing training on open source tools.
ASWF serves as an essential hub for technology partners, studios, and academic institutions, all focused on fostering open source innovations in contemporary content creation. This collaborative atmosphere allows for contributions in engineering, participation in technical working groups, and collaboration on significant open source projects that are critical to advancing the industry.
