Envision Energy and REE Group Collaborate for Major Wind Project in Southeast Asia

Envision Energy and REE Group Join Forces for Nearshore Wind Power

In a significant step towards renewable energy expansion in Southeast Asia, Envision Energy has entered a turbine supply contract with REE Group of Vietnam. This collaboration will see the construction of two massive nearshore wind projects in Vinh Long Province, with a total capacity of 128 megawatts (MW). The projects consist of the V1-3 Phase II, which is 48 MW, and the V1-56 Phase II, which adds another 80 MW.

The project will feature sixteen EN-226/8.XMW offshore wind turbines, marking the largest single-turbine capacity in Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia. Set against the backdrop of Vietnam's ambitious net-zero targets, this initiative is poised to deliver substantial environmental benefits while enhancing the local economy.

Construction is expected to commence simultaneously on both projects, capitalizing on the region's favorable average wind speeds that exceed 7 meters per second. These projects are pivotal as they are among the first batch approved under Vietnam's Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII), and they represent a landmark moment for the nation as it embraces large-rotor, high-capacity offshore turbines which have been previously unutilized in the country.

Envision Energy's commitment to quality and sustainability is evident as they apply true offshore wind standards specifically designed to withstand Vietnam's unique conditions, including high humidity and salt spray. This attention to detail ensures optimum turbine performance and reliability while adhering to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance.

The strategic partnership extends beyond turbine supply; Envision has actively collaborated with local suppliers and project stakeholders to address potential obstacles related to the manufacturing of large offshore turbine towers and the associated local production capacities. Since its launch in 2022, the EN-226/8.XMW turbine has gathered over 2.5 gigawatts (GW) in orders, establishing itself as the leading model in public tenders aimed at low-wind-speed offshore regions. It has been operationally stable for over three years within Chinese offshore projects, demonstrating its reliability.

Edward Hou, Senior Vice President and President of Asia-Pacific at Envision Energy, expressed his enthusiasm about the project by stating, "This collaboration marks the first nearshore offshore wind project cluster delivered under Vietnam's Power Development Plan VIII and opens a new chapter for offshore wind development in Southeast Asia. Envision is committed to providing robust support for REE Group's energy transition and creating a project that serves as a regional benchmark."

On the other side, Mr. Ashok, REE's Renewable General Manager, affirmed their choice of Envision Energy as the turbine supplier, attributing it to their technological leadership in the renewable energy sector and the proven reliability of the EN-226/8.XMW platform. He stated, "We are confident that this project will set a benchmark for offshore wind in Vietnam and provide replicable technical and construction references for nearshore and offshore wind development across Southeast Asia."

With full grid connection expected by October 2026, these nearshore wind projects stand to be a game-changer for Vietnam's energy landscape. The collaboration exemplifies the advancements being made in renewable energy and sets a precedent for future offshore wind projects in the region, pushing towards a sustainable and net-zero future. This ambitious project not only reflects a significant milestone in Vietnam’s energy sector but also resonates deeply with global efforts to combat climate change through sustainable practices.
