Revitalizing LA's Baseball Community
In a heartfelt initiative to support youth athletes devastated by recent wildfires in Los Angeles, Rawlings Sporting Goods and Easton Diamond Sports are teaming up with California Strong and other organizations. The collaboration aims to raise funds and replace lost baseball and softball equipment for local communities affected by the fires.
This effort gained momentum with the important backing of The DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation, the Southeast Ventura County YMCA, and SidelineSwap. Collectively, these partners are working tirelessly to restore hope and normalcy to the families impacted.
A Legacy of Commitment
Easton's deep-rooted connection to the greater Los Angeles area stretches back to its establishment in the San Fernando Valley in the 1960s. Moving to Thousand Oaks in 2016, Easton has been closely associated with California Strong since 2018. Ron Ostrowski, President and CEO of Rawlings Sporting Goods, emphasizes, "In times like these, it is not what we should do, but what we can do to lift up those affected by the devastating fires."
The aim is to raise $100,000 in funds to create grants that assist families and organizations affected by the wildfires. The DICK'S Foundation has made a generous contribution of $25,000 towards this noble cause. Intriguingly, every dollar donated will be matched by Rawlings and Easton, providing new baseball and softball equipment to those who lost their gear.
Immediate and Long-term Support
Ryan Braun, co-founder of California Strong and former MLB player, highlighted their mission: "Our goal at California Strong is to provide immediate and long-term support for those who have been impacted by these LA fires. By working with Rawlings and Easton, we will continue to build upon what we have already done."
In addition to financial aid, the organizations plan to host a special equipment replacement event on February 8 at the Cheviot Hills Pony Baseball Fields in LA. Here, Rawlings and Easton will distribute new gear to players who lost equipment in the fire. The community is encouraged to donate new or gently used sports equipment during this event, with SidelineSwap processing the contributions and directing all proceeds to the California Fire Relief fund.
Bringing Communities Together
The importance of such initiatives cannot be overstated. Ronnie Stone, President/CEO of Southeast Ventura County YMCA, expressed, "Many families continue to face immense challenges following the recent devastation. Providing baseball and softball equipment can offer a small measure of comfort and hope."
Reports from youth baseball and softball officials indicate that over 250 families in areas like Pacific Palisades and Altadena have been significantly affected. Leaders from local leagues are thankful for this partnership, acknowledging that it will help kids return to baseball and softball, crucial for their emotional recovery.
Bob Benton, Commissioner of the Palisades Pony Baseball Association, stated, "These fires have destroyed so much of our community. We are so thankful that Rawlings, Easton, and California Strong are supporting the children affected. This initiative is vital for helping them reclaim a sense of normalcy."
A Unified Front
This initiative exemplifies the power of community and the sports world coming together in the face of adversity. Rawlings, Easton, California Strong, and their partners remain steadfastly committed to helping the local baseball and softball communities of Los Angeles not only recover but thrive once again.
