Seminar Overview
On February 6, 2026, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a seminar featuring Yoshiyoshi Kozano, the Deputy General Manager of the Low Carbon Solutions Business Unit at INPEX Corporation. The session will delve into the progress and future direction of the blue hydrogen and ammonia demonstration project originating from Niigata.
The seminar aims to highlight INPEX's advancements in utilizing ammonia as a fuel that generates no CO2 emissions during combustion. This represents a significant approach toward low carbon initiatives. Despite its potential, the current manufacturing processes require further development to include technologies for producing blue ammonia, which treats CO2 emissions through Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), and the manufacturing of green ammonia derived from renewable energy, all while lowering costs.
Key Topics to be Discussed
1. Overview of INPEX and Commitment to Low Carbon Solutions
2. Methods of Blue Ammonia Production and Associated Challenges
- Characteristics of ammonia and its utilization as a fuel
- Classification based on methods of hydrogen production
- Traditional manufacturing processes combined with CCUS
- Concept of a high-efficiency blue ammonia manufacturing process
3. Integrated Demonstration Test for Blue Hydrogen and Ammonia Production
- Location details for the project in Kashiwazaki City
- System concept diagram of the demonstration test
- Process configuration
- Overview of the Higashi-Kashiwazaki gas field
- Future outlook for the project
4. Q&A Session
5. Networking Opportunity
Following the seminar, attendees will have the chance to engage in networking, facilitating the exchange of business cards and expanding their professional connections. This is particularly beneficial for fostering collaboration among participants and business growth.
