Introducing Yokoyama Honey: A Pure Delight From Sagamihara Park

The Launch of Yokoyama Honey: Nature's Sweet Gift

In the heart of Sagamihara City, Kanagawa, Yokoyama Park is taking a sweet step forward by introducing an exclusive honey product, "Yokoyama Honey." This unique venture is the result of a project initiated in 2024 by the Seibu Landscape Group, which established a beekeeping initiative in the park to promote environmental education and local partnerships.

A Sweet Taste of Local Flora

Yokoyama Honey is not just any honey; it's a taste of Sagamihara's diverse floral offerings. The honey is produced by approximately 30,000 bees, cared for by park staff, and is harvested from local blossoms, including cherry trees and various garden flowers within a 2-3 kilometer radius of the park. This ensures that every jar of honey captures the essence of the season and local environment, making it a truly special product.

The honey is raw and unprocessed, allowing consumers to experience the natural flavors unique to the area. Consumers are encouraged to savor this honey straight from the jar or incorporate it into their culinary creations.

Event Launch and Future Sales

Yokoyama Honey will be unveiled at the first-ever "Yokoyama Mii-tsu Festa" held on May 17 and 18, 2025. During this exciting event, attendees can purchase this sweet delicacy in limited quantities:
  • - Small Jar (30g): 600 yen (tax included)
  • - Large Jar (160g): 1,000 yen (tax included)

This event will be an introduction to the public, with a broader release planned for June 2025 through various local sales points in the park and beyond.

Previously, limited samples of Yokoyama Honey were available at select events, but this will mark the first time the honey will be sold in jars. The demand for this local treasure is anticipated to be high, and shoppers may encounter buying restrictions based on stock availability.

Flavor Profile and Characteristics

This freshly harvested honey is characterized by its inviting aroma and rich flavor profile, followed by a clean finish. It boasts high sugar content, providing a pleasant, sticky mouthfeel. Ideal for both direct enjoyment and use in recipes, Yokoyama Honey represents the harmonious flavors of local flora, melted down by industrious bees.

Yokoyama Park staff are deeply involved in the care of the honey bees (details kept securely for safety reasons), collaborating with local kindergartens to plant flowers, contributing to a vibrant ecosystem eagerly visited by the bees come spring.

The Celebration of Bees

The "Yokoyama Mii-tsu Festa" celebrates the local beauty and the vital role bees play in our ecosystem. Coinciding with World Bee Day on May 20, this event is not just about honey. In addition to the honey sale, there will be various honey-inspired gourmet offerings, handmade crafts themed around bees, and eco-craft workshops like umbrella-making in preparation for the rainy season. Plus, visitors can enjoy a mini concert featuring local school bands on May 17, showcasing musical talents amid nature’s splendor.
