EIFS Industry Members Association Launches Free Project Gallery

As energy codes throughout North America evolve—transforming continuous insulation from a choice to a requirement—the EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA) has stepping up to introduce a new and valuable resource. The organization has launched a free, searchable project gallery containing over 200 completed EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems) projects. This gallery serves a crucial purpose, giving architects and specifiers access to real-world examples that demonstrate the effectiveness of continuous-insulation wall assemblies.

Located in Falls Church, Virginia, EIMA's initiative is perfectly timed to address significant shifts in building codes that now mandate additional insulation layers. As such, this developed gallery is both free of charge and easy to access as it requires no registration. This allows users to search through projects spread across 38 states and provinces, covering various building types from multifamily homes to institutional buildings since 2018.

One of the standout features of the EIFS Project Gallery is its ability to provide key evidence for architectural decisions, allowing specifiers to visualize how EIFS appears in different climates, project budgets, and designs. As Stephen T. Sears, CEO of EIMA, explains, “Specifiers aren't asking if EIFS can meet the energy code; they know it does. They want to see it in projects similar to theirs.”

Until the gallery's launch, detailed documentation of completed EIFS projects had been scattered and fragmented. Architects could not readily find a centralized resource showcasing the full breadth of EIFS applications. The gallery not only allows attendees to filter projects based on their area of expertise—such as type of building, EIFS manufacturer, architect, and construction method—but also provides access to full case studies for projects featuring EIMA member manufacturers like Adex Systems, Dryvit, Master Wall, Sika, and Sto Corp.

A significant advantage of EIFS is its flexibility in design. Available in numerous color palettes and textures, EIFS can mimic various materials such as brick, stone, stucco, and wood, all while being considerably lighter than traditional cladding materials. This characteristic not only makes EIFS suitable for new builds but also enhances its appeal for retrofitting and re-cladding outdated structures. As building owners upgrade aging buildings, the lightweight nature of EIFS becomes increasingly attractive, further promoting its use.

The gallery displays works across a spectrum of sectors including healthcare, hospitality, affordable housing, retail, and educational facilities—each one demonstrating the innovative applications of EIFS technology. This combined effort aims to foster a deeper understanding within the design community regarding how EIFS can effectively be integrated into modern architecture.
