In a momentous ceremony held on December 9, 2025, Professor Youmin Xi, the Executive President of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), was bestowed an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Liverpool. This esteemed recognition highlights his remarkable leadership at XJTLU and his significant role in enhancing global higher education, particularly as the institution approaches its 20th anniversary.
The awarding of the Honorary Fellowship took place during the University of Liverpool's graduation ceremony, where approximately 2,500 graduates celebrated their academic achievements. This event not only celebrated the students' accomplishments but also underscored the strong partnership between XJTLU and the University of Liverpool, which has thrived since the joint venture's inception.
During his visit, Professor Xi interacted with students from the flagship 2+2 program that facilitates educational opportunities between XJTLU and the University of Liverpool. He also toured the new expansion of the Liverpool School of Architecture. It was a heartfelt reunion with notable colleagues from the University of Liverpool, including former Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Drummond Bone and Professors Kelvin Everest and Michael Fang, who were instrumental in establishing the collaborative institution.
