Experience Tradition and Sustainability: Harvest Festival in Kanuma with Family Fun

Experience Tradition and Sustainability in Kanuma

Join us for the Harvest Festival and Rice Flour Dumpling Experience in Kanuma on October 25, 2025! This exciting event is a collaborative effort between Tobu Top Tours and Zen Nikko Brewery, which has recently transformed a former school into a sake brewery. This initiative is part of the 2025 Tourism Agency's Regional Discovery Project, aimed at creating a sustainable tourism destination that preserves tradition while utilizing local resources.

Carrying forward the successful launch of our year-round sake brewing experience program with the Rice Planting Festival and Homemade Miso Making event in June, we are now excited to present the second phase! Participants will experience the joy of harvesting the rice planted during the first event, along with trying delicious dumplings made from rice bran leftover from the brewing process. We invite families and children to partake in this enriching experience that emphasizes the importance of agriculture and fosters a deep connection with nature.

Immerse Yourself in Japanese Tradition

The Harvest Festival is more than just a celebration of crops; it is a significant ritual that expresses gratitude to the deities for a bountiful harvest. When adults and children join together, it provides a priceless opportunity to learn about the importance of agriculture across generations and appreciate the bonds with nature. This event aims to cultivate an understanding of these cultural values in a fun and engaging way.

Nutritional Recycling of Rice Bran

At Zen Nikko Brewery, we believe in maximizing the potential of our resources. The rice bran generated during the brewing process will be transformed into delicious, nutrient-rich dumplings. This practice not only reduces waste but also highlights the cycle of food production, imparting knowledge about the value of food and its origins. Attendees can enjoy the dumplings with toppings such as sweet red bean paste, soybean flour, and a delightful strawberry sauce developed specifically to pair with our dumplings.

Continuation of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Program

This event is part of a year-round program showcasing Japan's traditional sake brewing arts, building upon the success of the previous Rice Planting Festival and Homemade Miso Making event. As we focus on education through practical experiences, participants will gain insights into traditional practices while making lasting memories.

Upcoming Events

Following this festival, we plan to host the third event in January 2026, featuring an Original Sake Brewing Experience. These events are designed to provide fun, educational experiences surrounding Japan's unique history and traditional skills.

Our commitment to establishing a sustainable tourism destination that preserves cultural heritage will continue as we collaborate with local businesses to enhance regional branding. By combining tourist content, we aim to promote local resources as vital attractions, engaging both residents and visitors in our community's rich heritage.
