Penn State THON Sets New Fundraising Record, Raising Over $18 Million for Childhood Cancer Support

Penn State THON Breaks Fundraising Records in 2026

In an inspiring display of student dedication and community spirit, Penn State THON™, the world's largest student-led philanthropy, achieved an unprecedented fundraising milestone, raising a record $18,841,726.53 during its annual dance marathon held from February 20 to February 22, 2026. This remarkable total marks the highest single-year fundraising amount in THON's storied history.

The event, which is a 46-hour, no-sleep, no-sitting dance marathon, aims to support childhood cancer research and provide aid to families affected by this difficult journey. All funds raised go directly to Four Diamonds, a nonprofit fund that fully covers medical expenses for pediatric cancer patients at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital. Additionally, these funds are vital for advancing groundbreaking research initiatives at the Penn State College of Medicine.

The theme for THON 2026, "Love Leads Forward," resonated powerfully throughout the event, emphasizing the collective compassion and solidarity of students, volunteers, families, and supporters. This year’s marathon featured a surprise musical performance by Fitz and The Tantrums, energizing the crowd and amplifying the sense of community celebration.

Executive Director Benjamin Roitman remarked, "While we are incredibly proud of this record-breaking total, the true success of THON is found in the thousands of Penn State students who came together with a singular purpose. This milestone reflects the tireless effort and collective spirit of our community, demonstrating that there are no limits to what we can achieve together in the fight against childhood cancer."

Founded in 1973, THON has grown into a year-round movement fueled by the energy and commitment of more than 16,500 student volunteers. Since its inception in 1977, THON has raised over $254 million, providing crucial support to more than 4,800 children and their families without placing a financial burden on them.

Alongside direct family aid, THON and Four Diamonds are instrumental in propelling pediatric cancer research forward. Recently, the Penn State College of Medicine, in collaboration with Aminex Therapeutics and the Beat Childhood Cancer Research Consortium, announced an innovative national clinical trial. This study will evaluate a new combination therapy for high-risk cancers affecting children and young adults, including neuroblastoma and various sarcomas. This effort signifies a hopeful advance for children diagnosed with aggressive forms of cancer.

Suzanne Graney, Executive Director of Four Diamonds, highlighted the importance of the funds raised, stating, "This historic achievement inspires us and accelerates our quest to conquer childhood cancer. Every dollar raised is a promise to Four Diamonds children fighting this disease, ensuring they receive world-class care and that we can continue to fund the essential research needed for a cancer-free future for all children."
