Exus Renewables North America Completes Wind Repower Projects

Exus Renewables North America recently celebrated a significant achievement with the completion of its Highland North and Cambria wind repower projects in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. The event, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, was attended by Exus executives, project partners, and representatives from various levels of government, showcasing the community and collaborative spirit that underpins these projects.

As the demand for clean energy surges, especially among data centers and large energy consumers, the completion of these wind projects comes at a crucial time. The output from the Cambria site is secured under a power purchase agreement with a Fortune 500 technology firm, exemplifying the industry's shift towards repowered wind sites, which can deliver energy faster than new builds that often require lengthy interconnection timelines.

Jim Spencer, President and CEO of Exus Renewables North America, expressed pride in reaching this milestone for the company and highlighted the benefits of repowering existing infrastructure. He stated, "Highland North and Cambria demonstrate how repowering can provide sustainable wind resources while utilizing established infrastructure for quicker capacity expansion."

Both sites boast nearly two decades of service to the community, with Cambria originally coming online in 2008 and Highland North following in 2012. This repowering initiative expands Exus's total owned wind capacity in Pennsylvania to an impressive 306.9 megawatts. Specifically, Cambria features a repowered 61.6 megawatt capacity, while Highland North represents a 75 megawatt project within the same county. All turbine installations were supplied by Vestas, and construction management was handled by JMS Energy.

Funds for the repowering, approximately $356 million, were facilitated by KeyBanc Capital Markets, underscoring the project's financial viability and community support. The enhancements made during the repower involved updating each turbine's nacelle, blades, and generator, which is expected to extend the operational lifespan by an additional 30 years.

Patrick Langan, Managing Director of Private Infrastructure at Partners Group, emphasized the commitment to renewable energy, stating, "Our investment of over $1 billion in Exus aims to develop and repower renewable energy projects. Highland North and Cambria exemplify the successful integration of our financial commitment with Exus's execution strengths."

Local officials also recognized the projects' positive impact on the community. Mark Bucci, Chairman of the Adams Township Board of Supervisors, noted that the tax revenues generated have been pivotal for local initiatives, supporting essential services and community development.

The construction phase brought in over 100 workers, highlighting the projects' role in job creation, and nine full-time positions will be maintained for operations and maintenance. Economically, the repowered projects are expected to inject approximately $6 million into the local economy through procurement of materials and services, alongside contributing an estimated $77 million over the next three decades in taxes and landowner payments.
