Experience the Joy of Harvest at Yachiyo's Melon and Watermelon Festival
On June 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the Yachiyo Melon and Watermelon Festival will take place, organized by the Pal System Ibaraki Tochigi at the Yachiyo Agricultural Cooperative Association’s direct production farm. This beloved annual event allows families to experience the joy of harvesting alongside local producers.
At this exciting festival, around 105 families from Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures will have the opportunity to learn directly from farmers about selecting ripe melons and watermelons. Participants will be guided on how to assess the condition of the leaves and the fruit's color, allowing them to expertly pick the perfect produce from the lush green fields.
A Taste of Freshness
During the event, families will enjoy lunch featuring locally sourced summer vegetables along with the fresh, delicious melons and watermelons harvested on-site. This shared mealtime experience between producers and consumers fosters a sense of community, as participants savor the taste of freshly harvested vegetables and learn about the vibrant farming culture of the region.
The festival also includes fun activities such as watermelon splitting and a lottery, which provide an opportunity for participants to interact with producers while gaining insights into the current state of agriculture and the production process. Through these shared experiences, everyone—producers, consumers, and staff—can deepen their mutual understanding and appreciation for sustainable production and consumption.
