About the Performance

'Why art exists is because it can negate the real world.' This thought-provoking quote by Mark Manson sets the stage for the artistic experience to come. La VENIDERA’s first production after parting from the Spanish National Ballet is aptly named 'NO'. The title implies not only rejection and denial but also suggests an emptiness or a void.

Inspired by contemporary dance trends in the realm of Spanish dance, this piece may differ from conventional perceptions of Spanish dance, even though it maintains a solid foundation in traditional styles. Viewers may find themselves engaging with the performance in different ways, as both contemporary dance and flamenco elements weave through La VENIDERA's captivating visual storytelling.

The music for the performance will feature Derek Van Den Bulcke, who masterfully integrates sound environments that ebb and flow between presence and absence, echoing the intensity of the dancers’ movements. With a unique combination of electronic instruments, the performance promises to deliver an immersive live audio experience that enhances the overall artistic expression.

'NO' has particularly garnered attention due to the collaboration with celebrated choreographer Marcos Morau. However, the duo behind La VENIDERA has consciously retained their own artistic direction, providing their unique interpretation rather than fully relying on Morau. Through this approach, they exhibit not only their mastery of classic Spanish dance but also showcase their roles as innovative choreographers and dancers. This duality is celebrate in their work 'NO.'

La VENIDERA received the prestigious El Ojo Crítico Award from the Spanish National Broadcasting for their performance in 2025. Since its premiere, the show has toured numerous venues across Europe and has also been well-received at art museums and open spaces through its condensed version, Pieza Corta. Additionally, 'NO' is currently nominated in four categories at the MAX Awards and three categories at the Godo Awards, further cementing its status as a must-see performance.
