Sivers Semiconductors Joins DIFI Consortium to Revolutionize Satellite Communication Standards

Sivers Semiconductors Joins DIFI Consortium

Sivers Semiconductors AB, a leader in photonics and wireless technologies, has officially joined the Digital Intermediate Frequency (IF) Interoperability (DIFI) Consortium. This strategic move positions Sivers as a key player in the ongoing efforts to enhance interoperability between satellite and ground system networks. The DIFI Consortium is a collaborative organization that encompasses various industry leaders focused on creating and promoting open, standards-based interoperability for digital IF and RF systems in the satellite industry.

By becoming a member, Sivers Semiconductors has joined a growing list of innovative companies that are instrumental in developing the digital infrastructure necessary for the advancement of satellite technology. This membership comes shortly after Sivers announced a partnership to create high-performance, cost-effective digitizers utilizing the NXP Layerscape platform, aimed at supporting SATCOM for Intelsat, a major player in the integrated satellite and terrestrial network field.

Vickram Vathulya, CEO of Sivers, expressed pride in the company's new affiliation with the DIFI Consortium, emphasizing the significance of their advanced RF and optical technologies in shaping the future of satellite communications. He stated, “Our technologies are crucial for next-generation connectivity, and through DIFI, we aim to bolster innovation and establish standards across the satellite and space ecosystem.”

With over 20 years of experience in designing mmWave solutions for both satellite communications and advanced 5G systems, Sivers' involvement in DIFI is indicative of their commitment to collaboration and leadership within the industry. Their extensive expertise in mmWave, optical technologies, and integrated circuits tailored for aerospace, defense, and satellite markets enhances the collective capability of the Consortium's technical initiatives.

Stuart Daughtridge, Chairman of DIFI, welcomed Sivers Semiconductors, stating, “We are pleased to have them join our ever-expanding member list as we evolve our standards to address a broader range of use cases and continue developing our Certification Program.”

In a bid to extend their influence in the satellite and space communications market, Harish Krishnaswamy, Managing Director of the Wireless Division at Sivers, highlighted that joining DIFI is a strategic step forward. He asserted that “Open standards are vital for unlocking scalable and interoperable solutions, and we look forward to collaborating with other industry leaders to shape the next generation of space-based connectivity.”
