Independent Tests Reveal the Most Effective Business Security Products for Real Threats

Amidst the rising tide of cyberattacks, particularly ransomware incidents, businesses are increasingly seeking reliable security solutions. Recent findings from AV-Comparatives, an independent testing organization, have shed light on the efficacy of various business security products that are crucial in defending against daily cyber threats.

In March 2026, a cyberattack linked to Iranian hackers resulted in the breach of Stryker, a prominent medical device manufacturer. The attackers were able to infiltrate the company’s systems and prompted the resetting of over 200,000 devices across 79 countries. This incident not only disrupted manufacturing processes but also left a considerable number of orders unfulfilled for several days.

In a scene not far removed, Foxconn disclosed that its North American facilities suffered a massive data breach due to the Nitrogen ransomware group, which allegedly stole about 8 terabytes of sensitive client information. These incidents exemplify the extensive vulnerabilities faced by organizations of all sizes, often stemming from a single compromised endpoint or third-party vendor.

A Call for Tested Solutions

In light of these alarming trends, AV-Comparatives published the results of their latest Business Security Test, evaluating 16 leading endpoint protection solutions under real-world conditions. Conducted between March and June 2026, the test aimed to gauge each product's performance against malware, false alerts, and overall system impact.

What Was Tested

The evaluation included a set of realistic threat scenarios such as real malware attacks encountered during typical internet use, malware already present on the system, and the incidence of false positives from both enterprise and mainstream applications. The study also measured how each product affected the system's speed during routine tasks, including file copying and application launching.

Participating vendors included well-established names like Avast, Bitdefender, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Kaspersky, and Microsoft, among others.

Key Findings

Among the evaluated products, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, and Elastic stood out, each achieving an impressive 99.8% protection rate. When it came to the malware detection test, Elastic recorded a perfect detection rate of 100%, closely followed by Avast and Norton, both at 99.8%.

Significantly, the tests showed no false alerts for common professional software across all products, a key indicator of reliability and a valuable asset for IT administrators. In regards to system performance, ESET and Kaspersky had the least impact, allowing users to work effectively without noticeable slowdowns.

Out of the sixteen solutions tested, fifteen surpassed the stringent criteria required to earn the Approved Business Product Award, recognizing their effectiveness in protecting against modern security threats.

Why This Matters Now

Reflecting on the breaches at Stryker and Foxconn, Andreas Clementi, CEO of AV-Comparatives, emphasized that complex attacks are not necessary to cripple a business; instead, vulnerabilities often lie with unprotected endpoints or ineffective security software. The essence of the Business Security Test is to equip IT managers—regardless of their organizational size—with empirical data they need to ascertain whether a product will genuinely protect their enterprise without disrupting operations.

The report also addresses the emerging question of whether businesses should enable Zero Trust features on standard workstations. While these features are beneficial in tightly controlled environments like interactive kiosks, AV-Comparatives' analysis suggests they can lead to excessive administrative workload and user disruptions in typical business contexts. This implies that integrated Windows protections could serve as a more balanced approach between security and usability.
