New Brand AERO1200 Launches to Honor Seattle's Aviation Legacy

In Seattle, a new landmark is set to redefine urban living and celebrate the city’s centuries-old ties to aviation. OPTrust, one of Canada’s leading pension funds, has recently introduced a fresh brand identity for its grand mixed-use development at 1200 Stewart Street, dubbed AERO1200. This name not only embodies the project's essence but also pays homage to Seattle’s proud aviation heritage.

The newly revealed AERO1200 brand represents a pivotal moment for the ambitious project, merging stunning architectural elements with sustainable development practices. Andrew Dawdy, the Director of Real Estate at OPTrust, stated, “The unveiling of AERO1200 marks a defining milestone for this project—one that reflects both the building's identity and the progress being made toward completion.” This statement highlights OPTrust’s mission to add value to the community while creating vibrant spaces that enhance downtown Seattle’s appeal.

One of the most striking features of AERO1200 is the full-size Boeing 747 fuselage that is being impressively suspended within the building’s galleria, connecting its two towers. This installation is not merely for show; it serves as a centerpiece and symbolic gateway into the heart of downtown Seattle.

As part of the project’s ambitions, AERO1200 will include a range of facilities designed for urban living. There will be 927 rental homes and 121 short-stay suites housed in the newly branded AEROLUX Hotel, which will cater to both residents and visitors alike. The integration of retail and communal spaces into the design further highlights the project’s commitment to fostering community and accessibility.

The development also reflects a commitment to affordability, as OPTrust plans to participate in the City of Seattle's Multi-Family Tax Exemption Program. This initiative aims to ensure that 20-25% of the residential rental homes will be set aside as affordable housing, addressing a pressing need in the local market.

Construction is well underway, with significant progress on both the residential and commercial interiors. As construction firms Cobalt and JTM Construction lead the way on the project, the hope is to finish by early 2027. Daniel Griffiths, Principal at Cobalt, described AERO1200 as “a once-in-a-generation project” due to its scale and the intricate design elements that make it a beacon of architectural ingenuity.

Cobalt prides itself on its comprehensive approach to real estate development, integrating financial acumen and design excellence with a focus on creating environments where economic prosperity and social interaction flourish. Similarly, JTM Construction is renowned for its expertise in managing complex residential and commercial developments across the Puget Sound region.

With the AERO1200 development nearing completion, Seattle residents can expect a vibrant new space that promises to enrich their downtown experience for generations to come. The combination of luxurious living, accessible hotel accommodations, and retail opportunities makes AERO1200 a unique addition to the Seattle landscape.

As anticipation builds, AERO1200 is set to become an iconic part of Seattle’s thriving urban life—a symbol of how the city can innovate while honoring its storied past. Keep an eye on this exciting development as it approaches its projected completion date in the near future. This endeavor not only signifies OPTrust’s dedication to sustainable development but also their aim to create a lasting impact on the Seattle community.
