WSSA Acknowledges 2026 Weed Contest Awardees

The Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) recently celebrated an impressive display of knowledge and expertise in weed science by announcing the winners of its 2026 Weed Contest. The contest this year was a major undertaking, involving nearly 250 students from diverse universities participating across various regional contests. Regional Competitions

The WSSA's regional affiliates, which include the Northeastern, North Central, Southern, and Western divisions, organized and executed several challenges that tested the participants' skills. The contests took place on July 28, 2026. Students competed in various categories, demonstrating their practical skills in weed science.
• - North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS) and Western Society of Weed Science (WSWS) held joint contests on July 30, 2026, at the Bayer Crop Sciences Water Utilization Learning Center in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Approximately 70 volunteers assisted in testing 110 undergraduate and graduate students, challenging them to tackle real-world weed science issues.
• - The Southern Weed Science Society (SWSS) contest took place on August 5-6, 2026, at the University of Tennessee with 73 participants from 12 universities.
