Las Vegas Sands Contributes $150,000 to Support LGBTQ+ Youth Employment Program

Las Vegas Sands Donates to Empower LGBTQ+ Youth

In a notable commitment to social responsibility, Las Vegas Sands Corporation has announced a generous contribution of $150,000 to The LGBTQ+ Center of Las Vegas. This funding aims to support a workforce development program that provides vital work experience and job skills for youth experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. The initiative is centered around the Espresso Yourself Café, a mobile coffee truck designed to offer young adults aged 18-24 the opportunity to earn a paycheck while developing transferable skills.

The Espresso Yourself Café was originally launched as a permanent fixture at The Center’s main facility. Due to its success and the high level of participant engagement, the program is now expanding to community locations through the mobile service. This innovative approach not only caters to the immediate employment needs of these vulnerable young individuals but also helps pave the way for long-term sustainability through economic empowerment.

John Waldron, CEO of The LGBTQ+ Center, expressed his gratitude for this partnership, highlighting the transformative impact that such an initiative has on the lives of vulnerable youth. “With Sands' continued and valued partnership, we are creating meaningful opportunities for vulnerable youth to build confidence, develop job skills, and gain real-world work experience,” he stated.

The collaboration between Sands and The Center began four years ago with the expansion of the Arlene Cooper Community Health Center. Since then, Sands has committed to ongoing investments that enhance The Center’s healthcare resources and support its infrastructure. This collaborative path has led to the establishment of the Sands Cares Accelerator, a program that has boosted The Center's marketing and communication capabilities, allowing it to expand its reach and effectiveness in community-based care.

Ron Reese, SVP of Global Communications and Corporate Affairs at Sands, pointed out that this new phase of their collaboration is closely aligned with the company's global focus on workforce development.
