Supporting Single-Parent Families in Shibuya
Starting on October 15, 2025, Good Neighbors Japan (GNJP) is launching a crowdfunding initiative aimed at supporting economically challenged single-parent families in Shibuya through a local hometown tax scheme. This campaign encourages the public to make contributions that will be utilized for GNJP's ongoing food assistance program, known as "Good Meal," which targets families experiencing challenges in three key areas: household finances, nutrition, and experiential opportunities for children.
Background of the Project
In Japan, many single-parent families face significant economic hardship, requiring assistance across various dimensions, including budgeting, access to nutritious meals, and opportunities for their children to engage in enriching experiences. Recognizing this pressing need, GNJP has been operating the "Good Meal" initiative since 2017. This program provides complimentary food distributions and hosts family-oriented experiential events, thereby addressing the immediate needs of these families while fostering community support.
Project Overview
This crowdfunding campaign will run from October 15 to December 31, 2025, under the umbrella of Shibuya’s hometown tax initiative, which allows donors to directly support GNJP’s efforts as an accredited non-profit organization. Contributions made to this project will fund approximately 10,000 yen worth of food every month for participating families, as well as facilitate various experiential events designed for parents and children together.
Features of the Crowdfunding Initiative
- - Select Your Project: Donors have the unique opportunity to choose which projects to support, ensuring that contributions align with personal values.
- - Tax Benefits: Donations exceeding 2,000 yen are eligible for a deduction from income and resident taxes (subject to certain limits), allowing individuals to engage in social issue resolutions at a minimal personal cost.
- - Unique Local Perks: Contributors may also receive exclusive return gifts unique to Shibuya, though opting out of receiving a gift is available.
