Life Corporation Partners with Tokyo Gas for Renewable Energy

Life Corporation, which operates a chain of retail stores, has recently made strides in sustainable energy by collaborating with Tokyo Gas and Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions (TGES). This partnership will implement an offsite corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at nine Life Corporation locations in the Tokyo metropolitan area, aiming to utilize renewable energy efficiently.

The agreement comes in light of a memorandum between Life Corporation and TGES, established in July 2025, focusing on CO2 emissions reduction initiatives. Beginning April 2026, the scheme will facilitate the supply of electricity generated from approximately 2,200 kW of solar power, transitioning about 18% of the annual electricity consumption of these stores to renewable sources. This initiative is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by around 1,000 tons annually.

Supply from Multiple Solar Power Stations

Tokyo Gas, acting as the retail electricity provider, will procure solar power and non-fossil certificates from multiple solar power facilities situated in the Kanto region. Through TGES, this renewable electricity will be supplied to Life Corporation’s stores. In cases where the energy demand exceeds this renewable supply, Tokyo Gas will fulfill the additional electricity needs from its own power generation facilities and other energy sources.

Commitment to Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Life Corporation is committed to addressing climate change by setting ambitious goals for greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Aiming to limit the global average temperature rise to under 2 degrees Celsius, the company has established a medium-term objective to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions by 50% from 2013 levels by the year 2030. This commitment was officially recognized starting from the fiscal year 2022, indicating a determined effort to enhance sustainability practices.
