Exciting Transformation: NAGOYA's Yokai Exhibition Surpasses 80,000 Visitors

The NAGOYA Yokai Exhibition: Celebrating Japanese Folklore

The ongoing "Moving Yokai Exhibition NAGOYA - Imagination of Japan -" has surpassed an impressive milestone of 80,000 visitors. This groundbreaking exhibition, produced by HITOHATA, was launched on July 19, 2025, in the Kenyama Minami Building's museum section in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. As the landmark event attracts interest from families, adults, and children alike, it promises a unique blend of entertainment, education, and cultural engagement.

Celebrating 80,000 Visitors

To commemorate this significant achievement, a special ceremony was held to honor the 80,000th visitor—a family hailing from Kaneyama, Aichi. The family received a thoughtful gift package including the official exhibition guidebook, a stylish tote bag, and adorable Yokai plush toys. They shared their delight in discovering the rich world of Yokai characters, expressing appreciation for the immersive experience that captivated both adults and children.

A Journey into Yokai Art and Culture

The exhibition is a pioneering immersive digital art museum that showcases century-old Japanese Yokai art from the Edo and Meiji periods, featuring works like the “Hyakki Yagyō” (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons) and representations of various Yokai such as the Tengu and Kappa. By utilizing cutting-edge techniques such as 3D computer graphics, projection mapping, and holographic displays, the exhibition brings to life the whimsical and bizarre forms of Yokai, making them leap from the canvases into a vivid, interactive experience.

Partnering with Japan’s first rare book museum, the Nishio City Iwase Library, and the Yokai Museum in Shodoshima, the exhibition offers insights into Yokai culture, art, and their relevance in contemporary pop culture. Visitors are invited to explore the depth of this fascinating tradition, its historical evolution, and its connections to modern storytelling and entertainment.
