The recent Bakery China 2026, the 28th edition of this renowned exhibition, wrapped up on May 23 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai. This year’s event reinforced its status as a critical global platform for the bakery and confectionery sectors. With a focus on innovation and future connections, the exhibition attracted a remarkable number of participants and showcased an impressive range of products.
A Grand Scale of Participation
Operating under the theme "Innovate Beyond • Premiere Fusion • Link Future," the four-day event spanned over 330,000 square meters and welcomed 2,267 brands and companies from 79 countries and regions. Additionally, it drew nearly 400,000 professional visitors hailing from 144 countries, underlining the event's global appeal and the bakery industry's expanding reach. Zhang Jiukui, president of the China Association of Bakery Confectionery Industry, emphasized that Bakery China is committed to fostering high-quality development within the bakery sector, facilitating partnerships, sharing insights on trends, and enhancing exposure for global exchanges.
International Presence and Collaborations
The international dimension of Bakery China 2026 was marked by the involvement of companies from various countries, representing over 20% of total participants. Renowned brands from nations including Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, the U.S., and South Korea showcased their products. Notably, the "Belt and Road Bakery Theme Zone" featured ingredients and techniques from countries involved in this international initiative. One of the highlights of the event was the cross-cultural fusions that emerged, exemplifying the blend of Chinese flavors in Western-style pastries and Western techniques in traditional Chinese baking. The interest from overseas buyers surged, with a reported increase of over 60%, demonstrating the growing international attention on China's bakery sector.
Supporting Chinese Brands in Global Expansion
For the first time, Bakery China incorporated a "Going Global" forum, addressing crucial topics relevant to Chinese bakery enterprises eyeing international markets. Discussions revolved around international compliance certification, halal certification, supply chain localization, and effective cross-cultural brand communication strategies, thus providing participants with valuable insights for their global endeavors.
Innovation at the Forefront
Throughout the exhibition, thousands of innovative products and technologies were on display. The Bakery China Innovation Award honored 136 products from 122 participating companies, spanning different categories including ingredients, equipment, and packaging solutions. The New Product Launch Week further solidified the exhibition’s reputation as a barometer for industry innovation and creativity.
Focus on Chocolate and Smart Manufacturing
A significant addition was the introduction of Chocolate China 2026, a specialized chocolate industry segment that covered 30,000 square meters and showcased over 150 global cocoa and chocolate enterprises. This area provided an overview of key trends in smart manufacturing, healthy eating, and clean labeling. The innovations highlighted included automated baking production lines powered by AI and advanced AI vision quality control systems, indicating a strong movement towards increased automation, traceability, and operational efficiency in the bakery industry.
Looking Ahead
As Bakery China continues to influence the global bakery landscape, organizers announced an upcoming event, the Bakery ASEAN exhibition, scheduled for August 27-29 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Additionally, the 11th Bakery China Autumn and the 9th China Home Baking Show will take place from October 22 to 24 at the Wuhan International Expo Center. These initiatives signify Bakery China’s ongoing commitment to promote innovation, collaboration, and growth within the global bakery sector and beyond.
