Global Tech Alliance Launches Stargate UAE to Revolutionize AI Infrastructure and Collaboration

Global Tech Alliance Launches Stargate UAE

In a groundbreaking development for artificial intelligence (AI) and international collaboration, a partnership has emerged among tech giants G42, OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group, and Cisco to build Stargate UAE. This next-generation AI infrastructure cluster is set to operate out of a state-of-the-art 5-Gigawatt AI campus based in both the UAE and the USA.

Stargate UAE represents a pivotal advancement, operating as a 1-Gigawatt computing cluster powered by G42 and supported by the advanced technologies of OpenAI and Oracle. Cisco is bringing its cutting-edge Zero Trust security systems and AI-enabled connectivity to ensure robust data handling capabilities. Additionally, NVIDIA will be supplying its premiere Grace Blackwell GB300 systems to facilitate high-performance computing tasks. This project aims to deliver unparalleled computational resources and low-latency inference methods required to develop AI solutions that address the complexities of an evolving technological landscape.

The initial AI cluster, with a capacity of 200 Megawatts, is expected to come online by 2026, marking a significant step towards creating a trusted and scalable AI infrastructure. This facility is anticipated to accelerate scientific discoveries and drive innovation across various sectors, including healthcare, energy, finance, and transportation, paving the way for future economic growth and national development.

Announced during a high-profile event in Abu Dhabi, attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, and Donald J. Trump, former President of the USA, Stargate UAE signifies a scaffold for enhanced collaboration between the U.S. and the UAE. The initiative is built upon the innovative framework known as the “U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership,” aimed at deepening cooperation in AI and advanced technology sectors, promoting safe and responsible AI that delivers long-term benefits.

As part of this agreement, UAE companies are expected to expand their investments into the USA's digital infrastructure, aligning with the recently announced “America First Investment Policy.” This AI infrastructure campus, sprawling across 10 square miles, will become the largest facility of its kind outside the USA, delivering robust computing capacity of 5 Gigawatts while relying on clean energy sources, including nuclear, solar, and natural gas to minimize carbon emissions. Moreover, a dedicated science park within the facility will promote talent development and sustainable computing infrastructure, fostering innovation in a collaborative environment.

Peng Xiao, CEO of G42, remarked on the significance of Stargate UAE, stating, "The initiation of Stargate UAE represents a vital chapter in the AI partnership between the UAE and the USA. As founding partners, we are proud to collaborate with institutions that share our vision for responsible innovation and meaningful global progress. This initiative aims to bridge gaps built on trust and ambition, ensuring that economies, societies, and individuals worldwide benefit from AI advancements."

Sam Altman, Co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, expressed excitement over the initiative: "With the establishment of the first Stargate outside the USA in the UAE, we are turning a bold vision into reality. This crucial milestone in our 'OpenAI for Countries' initiative will help build AI infrastructure worldwide, ensuring that significant breakthroughs such as safer medications and personalized learning can emerge globally."

Larry Ellison, Chairman and CTO of Oracle, added, "Stargate connects Oracle’s AI-optimized cloud with state-level infrastructure. This unique platform will empower all UAE governmental and commercial entities to link their data with the most advanced AI models globally, setting new standards for digital sovereignty."

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, noted the transformative potential of AI, stating, "At Stargate UAE, we are building the AI infrastructure needed to advance the country’s ambitious vision, enabling its people to drive economic growth and shape their future."

Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Group, emphasized the global impact of Stargate, saying, "Having presented Stargate alongside OpenAI and Oracle in the USA, we envisioned a powerful engine for the next information revolution. The UAE is now the first nation outside the USA to adopt this sovereign AI platform, highlighting the global essence of our vision."

Chuck Robbins, Chairman and CEO of Cisco, concluded, "Cisco is thrilled to be part of Stargate UAE, leading groundbreaking AI innovations both in the UAE and globally. By integrating our secure, AI-optimized networking capabilities in this international initiative, we are constructing intelligent, secure, and energy-efficient networks, translating intelligence into actionable impact on a global scale."
