Future Rice Production Intentions in Japan
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan is initiating an important survey aimed at all rice producers regarding their production intentions for the near future, including the next year, five years, and ten years. This initiative is essential to shaping the future of rice policies in Japan and ensuring that the voices of all rice producers are acknowledged.
Purpose of the Survey
MAFF believes it is crucial to listen to the opinions of rice producers as it revises rice policies that will be implemented from fiscal year 2027 (the 9th year of the Reiwa era). Through this survey, the ministry aims to gain insights into the current management situations of producers, their production intentions, and any challenges they are facing in order to reinforce the rice production system in Japan.
The survey targets all rice producers, including commercial farmers and agricultural corporations. Feedback gathered is expected to play a pivotal role in defining the future landscape of rice cultivation in the country.

Message from Minister Koizumi
Agriculture Minister Koizumi, since taking office, has focused on preventing consumer disengagement from rice, especially amid rising prices. To create an environment where farmers can continue their production confidently, understanding real conditions in the field is pivotal.
Koizumi expresses a desire to hear firsthand from producers actively engaged in rice cultivation across Japan. Therefore, this survey has been implemented to gather insights on the future production intentions of rice farmers.
He urges as many producers as possible to participate in this important survey to ensure a prosperous future for rice cultivation in the country. Your participation is invaluable to formulating effective and supportive rice policies.
