Embry-Riddle's New ROTC Complex: Shaping Future Military Leaders
On May 6, 2026, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University marked a significant milestone by breaking ground on a new ROTC complex at its Daytona Beach Campus. The event gathered military leaders, government officials, and university representatives, all united in their commitment to enhancing the educational and training opportunities for the university's prominent ROTC programs.
The new facility is envisioned as a state-of-the-art environment that will cater to the needs of the university's highly ranked U.S. Air Force, Army, and Navy ROTC programs. Currently, there are nearly 800 cadets and midshipmen enrolled at the Daytona Beach Campus, reflecting a strong demand and dedication to training future military leaders. Florida Rep. Jennifer Canady expressed the state's unwavering support for the military, stating, "This facility is a powerful investment by Embry-Riddle in their success and their commitment to serve our great nation."
Retired U.S. Air Force General Jacqueline D. Van Ovost, a member of Embry-Riddle's Board of Trustees, emphasized the importance of this new complex, saying it represents an investment in the readiness and potential of cadets. She mentioned, "When you see what these cadets and midshipmen accomplish, you understand that we are shaping the officers who will lead our military for decades." The facility is designed to include advanced classrooms, an auditorium with 100 seats, a computer lab, mission-specific simulators, and student collaboration areas.
In addition to supporting academic and military training, the complex will feature a memorial site dedicated to honoring Eagles who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. This memorial will serve as a powerful reminder of the values of leadership, service, and remembrance that underpin the ROTC programs at Embry-Riddle.
The new 28,000-square-foot, two-story building is slated for completion in fall 2027. President P. Barry Butler, Ph.D., expressed confidence in the facility's significance, noting, "This facility is not only a commitment to these students who go on to serve our nation but also shows our dedication to helping them reach their academic, military, and leadership goals."
Embry-Riddle's ROTC programs have a distinguished history of producing well-prepared military officers. Over the past five years, they have commissioned over 750 graduates into various branches of the military. The Air Force ROTC program, specifically Detachment 157, is the second-largest in the nation and has ranked among the top 10% of all 145 detachments nationwide since 2022. The program has been particularly successful in producing Air Force pilots, and it leads in commissioning Space Force officers.
The Army ROTC Eagle Battalion boasts over 150 cadets, consistently recognized with the General Douglas A. MacArthur Award, which honors the top Army ROTC programs in the nation. It has produced 246 officers over the past five years and is known for its impressive performance in military skills competitions.
Embry-Riddle's Navy ROTC program, with over 100 midshipmen, also celebrates its success by maintaining a 100% graduation rate for Marine Corps Officer Candidate School graduates and demonstrating high achievement in commissioning naval officers.
Retired Air Force Colonel Alan Dayton, now the associate vice president for student success at Embry-Riddle, characterized the new ROTC complex as "a bold investment" that reflects the high caliber of students attending the university. He noted that the facility's expanded space and advanced training environments will foster collaboration across ROTC branches, ensuring that cadets and midshipmen are well-prepared to lead in an increasingly complex world.
Embry-Riddle continues to be a pivotal institution in shaping the military's future leaders, providing cutting-edge education combined with a rich tradition of service and commitment. As construction progresses, the university community is optimistic that the ROTC complex will serve as a cornerstone for forging the next generation of military officers, dedicated to defending and serving the nation.
