Celebrating 15 Years of Pink Aid's Support for Breast Cancer Patients in Need
In October 2025, Pink Aid proudly marks its 15-year anniversary, having made significant strides in providing invaluable support and emergency financial assistance to breast cancer patients nationwide. This unique nonprofit, which delivers aid within 48 hours, has allocated a remarkable
$13.7 million to more than
60,000 individuals since its inception in
2011. Founded by four passionate individuals -
Amy Katz,
Andrew Mitchell-Namdar,
Renee Mandis, and
Amy Gross - Pink Aid emerged from an urgent need to provide relief to those battling a disease that often results in financial hardship.
Despite advancements in breast cancer treatments, it remains a reality that
one in three patients faces severe financial turmoil during their treatment journey. The founders aimed to create a community of compassion, ensuring that patients never have to choose between critical medical care and basic needs like food and housing.
The importance of their mission has only intensified in today's climate. Breast cancer is the most costly form of cancer, costing families over
$3 billion in out-of-pocket expenses every year. Pink Aid works to alleviate this strain, with compassion serving as its guiding principle. Notably, over
90% of the organization's efforts are powered by volunteers, many of whom are survivors themselves, eager to give back and assist others through similar experiences.
Central to Pink Aid's operation is its flagship program, the
Pink Purse initiative, which provides emergency financial help for necessities including rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation. Referrals from hospital social workers facilitate prompt and effective assistance reaching those in urgent need. Alongside direct financial support, Pink Aid invests in hospital and community programs, offers emotional support, mentorship, and fosters a nationwide network of survivors committed to helping one another.
Co-founder and chairman
Amy Katz articulates the essence of the organization: “When someone hears the words 'you have breast cancer,' their world is turned upside down. Pink Aid is there from that first moment to hold their hand, provide critical financial help, and make the terrifying feel less so. Compassion is the human side of this disease, and it's what sets Pink Aid apart.”
What began as a humble local endeavor has blossomed into a vital national lifeline. Since
2015, the Pink Purse program alone has disbursed more than
$4.5 million in assistance to
8,500 patients, collaborating with over
1,200 social workers across
400+ hospitals nationwide.
