Cereals Canada Releases 2025 Wheat Crop Report for International and Domestic Clients
Cereals Canada has unveiled its highly anticipated annual report on the 2025 wheat harvest, aimed at informing both domestic and international clients about the prospects and quality of this season's crop. The report is essential for stakeholders who are dependent on Canadian wheat for their production needs.
According to Dean Dias, the CEO of Cereals Canada, this year's wheat harvest showcases outstanding quality and functionality, confirming Canada's position as a top supplier of high-quality wheat worldwide. Dias noted that the country is on its way to becoming the third largest exporter of wheat, known particularly for its high-protein varieties. It is anticipated that 27.4 million tons of wheat will be exported, reaching over eighty international markets, which aligns perfectly with consumer expectations regarding quality and protein content.
The Canadian farmers managed to cultivate a remarkable total of 36.6 million tons of wheat in 2025, with the majority classified as grade 1 or grade 2. While the growing conditions varied across the Prairies, timely mid-summer rains ensured yields exceeded average levels. Favorable weather across Eastern Canada during the winter wheat growth period led to excellent yields and overall good quality.
Protein levels across the harvested wheat aligned closely with longstanding averages, which is a reassuring indicator for clients. All wheat classes from the 2025 harvest displayed strong specific weights and average thousand-kernel weights that were notably high for samples collected in the West.
In a remarkable initiative to broaden outreach, Cereals Canada plans to present findings related to the new crop to twenty-nine countries, which had collectively imported $8.2 billion worth of Canadian wheat in 2024. The organization is gearing up to reveal in-depth technical data during two webinars catered to clients on November 18 and 19.
The 2025 report comes as a significant step forward, as it leverages information gathered from across Canada, including the Eastern wheat classes for the first time, thanks to a partnership with Grain Farmers of Ontario. As Elaine Sopiwnyk, Vice President of Technical Services, stated, “This is a pivotal year for Cereals Canada. The opportunity to analyze wheat from all over the country not only enhances our technical team's expertise but ensures a more streamlined process in compiling this year's new crop report.”
Each year, the new crop report is produced in close collaboration with the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC), value chain members, and provincial crop commissions. Throughout the harvest season, Cereals Canada coordinated with exporters and Grain Farmers of Ontario to collect representative samples from various wheat classes including Canadian Western Red Spring (CWRS), Canadian Western Amber Durum (CWAD), and Eastern Canadian Soft Red Winter wheat (CESRW).
