A Hauntingly Beautiful Story Comes to Life in Roppongi
Société Le Théâtre Elysée is set to present a captivating drama reading of Gilles Deleuze's renowned play "Motif" in the Roppongi Tricolore Theater's 1F foyer on December 5 and 6, 2025. This compelling piece, which has been brought to life around the world, invites attendees to experience a tale that is as beautiful as it is terrifying.
A Blend of Poetry and Performance
This production will incorporate the modern artistic technique called "poetry reading," which merges spoken word with musical elements. This method has recently gained traction in Broadway musicals, enhancing the emotional depths of the narrative. The smooth transition from quiet storytelling to rhythmic uplifting moments allows the performers to convey emotions and themes in an engaging manner, very much in line with the essence of Le Théâtre Elysée's performance style.
Creative Minds Behind the Production
The show features the talents of two accomplished actresses, Chika Fujimaru and Natsumi Kitamura. Directed by Shiori Shiraki, both actresses are seasoned performers with impressive credentials.
Chika Fujimaru first made her film debut alongside Sayuri Yoshinaga and has since excelled in various productions, also taking on roles as a producer. She is recognized for her direction in acclaimed plays such as "The Trees in the Garden and Four Stories" and "Motif." In 1981, she founded Japan's first authentic cultural club, the Japan-France Forum, which has hosted over 870 events. She is also honored with the Chevalier Medal from the French Republic.
Natsumi Kitamura, born in Tokyo in 1999, boasts various talents, including playing the piano and Japanese dance. She has amassed experience on both stage and screen, notably appearing in the NHK BS premium drama "The Couple in the Apartment" and the international cooperative play "The Beautiful of Honest Desires," which received accolades in Taiwan. Additionally, she has undertaken voice work, serving as a radio personality for Nack5's Saturday Morning Radio.
The Story: A Meeting of Two Women
At the heart of "Motif" lies the compelling interaction between a seasoned adult woman and a still-maturing young girl. Their encounter sets the stage for a story filled with beauty and terror, leading to an unexpected conclusion that will remain a secret until the very end. Audiences are invited to experience this thrilling narrative that promises surprises and emotional depth.
