New Courtyard by Marriott in Kyoto
JR Tokai has exciting news for travelers and locals alike! The
Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station, a collaboration with Marriott International, is set to open its doors in
Fall 2026. This new addition will be the second Courtyard hotel in Kyoto, following the successful launch of the Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo Karasuma earlier this year.
Design and Concept
The new accommodations will feature
270 guest rooms, all designed with the concept titled _“Collection of Kyoto Stories.”_ This design philosophy encompasses the rich history and evolving narrative of Kyoto through time, presenting a tranquil atmosphere that combines traditional motifs with modern elegance. Each guest room will take inspiration from
Kyoto's townhouses, while the walls will showcase stunning depictions of the majestic mountains surrounding the city, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a rooted Kyoto experience.
The hotel will also feature a beautifully designed entrance and lobby area. With a focus on traditional Japanese architectural beauty, guests can expect a warm and inviting atmosphere enriched with crafts, art, and literature, designed like a cozy library space where culture meets conversation.
Eastern Kyoto Mixed-Use Development Project
In tandem with the hotel opening, JR Tokai has also made notable advancements regarding the
(Tentative) Eastern Kyoto Mixed-Use Development Project set for completion in
2028. This ambitious project aims to create a vibrant hub in the eastern part of Kyoto station, featuring various facilities including:
- - TKP Garden City Premium Kyoto Hachijo Entrance (tentative): A venue offering conference rooms tailored for diverse event needs.
- - Fresco Hachijo Entrance Store (tentative): A comprehensive supermarket aimed at providing essential goods to both visitors and local residents.
The newly designated facilities will encompass various rooms accommodating different sizes for conferences and events, enabling the surrounding community and travelers to host activities in a strategic location just minutes from the station.
Due to the recent rise in business travel along the Tokaido Shinkansen, JR Tokai is dedicated to enhancing the region’s attractiveness as a MICE destination. By collaborating with local municipalities and convention facilities, the company plans to further promote the area's capabilities to host significant events and conventions effectively.
Enhancing Local Community and Convenience
The introduction of the Fresco supermarket will be particularly beneficial to travelers and locals alike, contributing to a significant enhancement in convenience for the Kyoto station area, which has seen a lack of supermarket options. This supermarket aims to serve residents, students, and professionals by becoming a staple grocery provider that meets daily needs, further enriching the local community.
With the opening of both the hotel and the mixed-use development, JR Tokai envisions a dynamic space that nurtures both business and personal interactions while celebrating the cultural depths of Kyoto. By integrating experiences through MICE and community events, JR Tokai hopes to create a thriving atmosphere for visitors while reinforcing the historic tapestry that Kyoto offers.
As we move closer to these launch dates, the anticipation grows not just for the facilities themselves but for the new stories and experiences they will produce as part of the ongoing legacy of Kyoto.
Stay tuned for more updates as 2026 approaches!
