Trulieve Celebrates the Launch of Medical Cannabis in Georgia with Historic Sale
Trulieve Marks the Expansion of Medical Cannabis in Georgia
On July 1, 2026, Trulieve Cannabis Corp. celebrated a historic achievement with the ceremonial first sale of medical cannabis in Georgia at their Marietta location. This launch is a direct result of the recently enacted “Putting Georgia's Patients First Act,” which significantly expands access to medical cannabis products for patients in the state.
The inaugural purchase was made by Desi Cleveland, a retired Army veteran, who selected the Roll One Clutch All in One vape along with Modern Flower whole flower products – both now newly accessible in Georgia. Cleveland expressed his gratitude, stating, “I served my country and came home with injuries that affect me every single day. Having access to a vaporized product that provides fast-acting relief when I need it most is something I've been waiting for.”
The passage of Senate Bill 220, signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp on May 12, 2026, allows for the sale of flower and vaporization products to patients aged 21 and older, expands qualifying conditions to include ailments such as lupus, HIV, and inflammatory bowel disease, and removes previous limitations for patients with conditions like cancer and Parkinson's disease.
Kim Rivers, CEO of Trulieve, expressed excitement about the law's implementation, which addresses the pressing needs of patients in Georgia. She stated, “We are thrilled to provide Georgia patients with a wider variety of products at our dispensaries and independent pharmacies. We applaud Governor Kemp and the state legislature for recognizing the patient need and addressing it with SB 220.”
Following the federal reassessment of medical marijuana, which moved it to Schedule III in April, qualified patients can now purchase medical cannabis from independent pharmacies across Georgia. Trulieve has begun supplying products to over a dozen pharmacies, planning further distribution throughout the summer.
Parth Patel, PharmD, who owns Bonaire Pharmacy, voiced the excitement of partnering with Trulieve, stating, “Pharmacists are trusted healthcare providers, and being able to provide medical cannabis alongside our patients' other medications is a natural extension of the care we already deliver.”
To celebrate the launch, all six Trulieve locations in Georgia are hosting events that include patient consultations, product specials, giveaways, and educational resources about the new law and products.
