ENGIE and Meta Join Forces in Expanding Renewable Energy with New Solar Project
HOUSTON, October 27, 2025 — In a bold move towards enhancing renewable energy sources, ENGIE North America (ENGIE) recently revealed an expansion of their Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Meta, which will now encompass over 1.3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy across four Texas-based projects. The highlight of this partnership is the introduction of the new 600 megawatt (MW) Swenson Ranch Solar project, strategically located in Stonewall County, southeast of Lubbock, Texas. This project marks ENGIE's largest solar venture to date, adding to a robust portfolio exceeding 11 GW that includes solar, wind, and battery storage solutions across North America.
With an anticipated operational date in 2027, the Swenson Ranch Solar project is set to cater to 100% of Meta's data center energy needs in the United States. Dave Carroll, the CEO and Chief Renewables Officer of ENGIE North America, expressed his enthusiasm about this expanded relationship with Meta, stating, "We are excited to continue the expansion of our relationship with Meta. Our objective is to bring reliable, cost-competitive power to the grid as rapidly as possible, and projects like Swenson demonstrate the importance of solar to meet the timely needs of our customers."
The projected investment of around $900 million for the Swenson project is expected to create job opportunities, employing more than 350 skilled workers during the construction phase. Moreover, the project is estimated to generate over $158 million in tax revenues for the local government and healthcare district over its operational lifespan. Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy at Meta, highlighted the company's commitment to sustainability by stating, "We are thrilled to bring an additional 600 MW of solar energy to the grid, and expand our partnership with ENGIE to 1.3 GW. Our collaboration with ENGIE enables us to continue matching 100% of our electricity use with clean and renewable energy to support our data center operations."
ENGIE North America, headquartered in Houston, Texas, serves as a crucial hub for ENGIE's global operations aimed at fostering a carbon-neutral economy. With a workforce of approximately 98,000 spread across 30 countries, ENGIE is deeply involved in delivering renewable energy solutions linked to a comprehensive value chain — from production to distribution. Each year, the organization invests upwards of $10 billion to advance energy transition initiatives and aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045.
